CHAPTER 12

1841 Words
Jackson almost threw his phone into the mirror as his anger rose to the top of his head. He just lost it. Why is it so hard for her to open her heart for him? Why can’t she admit that they were perfect for each other? Every time they finally had a chance to be together, Elliot always stands in their way. He felt desperate. Even when she was his legal wife now, Brooke still chose to be with that douchebag. Why can’t she realize that he was no good for her? He took a deep breath as he calculates his next move for now. Jackson might be a coward back in high school. He kept his feelings to himself and gave up on Brooke the moment he saw Elliot confessed his feelings for her. It was his biggest mistake by far. He wouldn’t have given up on her if he knew that Elliot would only take her for granted like this. He had decided that he would fight for her this time. He made a phone call to his friend. “Hey, bro…What’s up?” Troy's cheerful voice greeted him. “Yes, I know…I hope I didn’t bother you calling this late?” Jackson said, looking out from the window in his bedroom. Troy let out a hearty laugh. “Come on, Jackson…You know I’ll always make time for you.” He replied, and Jackson scoffed inside. Troy owed Jackson a lot of money because he had to give his mistress money. He owed him big time. “Good then…I need you to track the location of someone using her phone number. Do you think you can do that for me?” Jackson asked, shoving his left hand onto his pocket. Troy was silent for a while, “Ummm…sure. Just send me the phone number….So it’s a ‘her’, huh? Did your woman ran from you this time?” Troy then chuckled lowly. If only he was in front of her, Jackson would already punch him by now. “Can you just shut up and do the job?” Jackson said through a gritted teeth. “Okay, Fine! Jackson, I’m just kidding. Give me five minutes.” Troy said. He took a sharp breath, “One minute! Or you’ll have my man standing at your door by tomorrow morning.” Jackson threatened him and cut the call. He was already running out of patience right now. Part of it because of Brooke, and Troy just got unlucky this time. Jackson just finished changing his clothes when he got the text from Troy. He frowned at the address that he sent. Is he trying to f**k with him? It was a hospital. Brooke was completely fine and talked to him ten minutes ago. Then it means…Elliot was in the hospital? He quickly grabbed his car key and went out of his house. *********** The moment he got into the hospital, he went directly towards the receptionist. “I’m sorry, do you by any chance have a patient name Elliot Smith here?” he asked. He promised himself he would kill Troy if he messed up with him this time. The nurse looked up at the piece of paper on her board. “Oh yes, he just got into ICU this evening…His wife was with him now.” He sighed in relief. “Thanks…” he then said before heading towards the ICU section. He looked from outside the glass window. Brooke was sitting beside Elliot with a sad expression. She didn’t cry. She just looked tired and worried. He saw Brooke speaking to Elliot indistinctly, so Jackson went towards the door to get a better hearing of her. “Elliot, you still remember when you proposed to me?” She said with a bitter smile. Jackson felt a tug in his heart. “At that time, I thought I would die from happiness. It was the most unromantic thing when you failed to hide the ring and the bouquet from me…” she chuckled lowly, her eyes were glued on Elliot’s face the entire time. “You even troubled yourself by wearing a superman costume since you know I was so obsessed with Henry Cavill.” She kept talking to him as if he could hear her voice. Jackson can’t bring himself to stay there and eavesdropping on their conversation. She was still in love with Elliot, and he still far away from winning her heart. ************* As Brooke woke up in the middle of the night, she was surprised to see that she was sleeping on the couch and a blanket covered her body. She looked back at Elliot, and he was still there lying unconscious, just like the moment before she fell asleep. She stretched out her hands as she yawned sleepily. Her eyes saw a bag of food on the table, and it has her name on it. Who could possibly buy this food for her? A nurse came in to check on Elliot’s condition, and Brooke quickly got up from the couch. “How is he?” Brooke asked the nurse. “His condition is stable now, Mrs. Smith…You don’t have to worry.” She said with an assuring smile. “The doctor would come and check on his condition by tomorrow morning.” The nurse then added. I nodded at her. She turned around, ready to leave the room, when I stopped her again. “Wait! Do you by any chance know who put the food with my name over there?” I asked as I pointed towards the small desk. “Oh, that? He said he was your friend,…And he strictly told me that you have to finish all the food.” The nurse said, throwing me a suspicious look. “And where is he right now?” I asked her again. “He was here with you the whole time until a few moments ago…I’m surprised you haven’t met him?” The nurse asked her with a confused look. Brooke silently cursed herself. Sometimes she could sleep like a log and won’t notice anything while she was in a deep sleep. “Umm…No, I slept the whole time,” She admitted with a cheeky smile. “Is there anything else I could help you with, Mrs. Smith?” she asked her again politely, and she instantly shook her head. Brooke doesn’t want to keep stalling the nurse on her night shift with all her nonsense. She smiled briefly at Brooke before she excused herself out. Brooke huffed before she went back to the couch. She took the bag and peeked at the food inside of it. It was a cheeseburger…and it was from her favorite restaurant. She excitedly unwrapped the burger and took a bite. She just realized how famished she was. She hadn’t eaten anything since this morning. He even remembers that she dislikes pickles in her burger. Jackson. There’s no doubt that this was him. How did he know that she was here? And why didn’t he woke her up? He must be angry because she acted like a b***h towards him. She looked at the burger, and she thinks that maybe she should give Jackson a chance. Elliot had broken her heart two times, and it was more than enough she could bear. She can’t handle another breakup with him. As she ate the burger, a smile unconsciously crept on her face. It’s been a long time, but he still remembers things she likes, and she texted Jackson that she would come to his home by tomorrow. Which is probably went unread by him because it was 2 am in the morning. The next morning, she felt a light tap on her shoulder, and Brooke saw a doctor and a few nurses standing in front of her. The doctor cleared his throat before he smiled at her. “Good morning, Mrs. Smith…Your husband is there awake, waiting for you.” She can’t believe her own ears and instantly went towards his bed. Brooke rubbed her eyes in disbelief as she saw Elliot opened his eyes. “Elliot, you’re finally awake?” she asked in disbelief. His eyes went to meet her eyes, and it instantly filled with happy tears. “Brooke…I’m sorry.” He said with a hoarse voice. “Elliot, what the hell is happening? I’ve waited for you at the restaurant…” she broke into tears. The doctor seemed to notice that they need some space to talk. “Mrs. Smith…I’ll let you two talk alone for a moment.” He said, and Brooke nodded at him. The nurses soon followed after him, leaving them both alone in the ICU room. “It all happened so quickly…A bicycle passed in front of me, and when I was about to step on the brake, another car hit me from behind.” He then explained. “You should be more careful, Elliot! This is not the first time you were driving on the street.!?” She snapped at him. “I know,…But my mind was in a mess…I have been thinking on how to make things right with you again.” He admitted, his eyes still stared deeply into her. Brooke’s tongue was tied. She kept reminding herself that it was not wise to accept him back right away. “I actually want to end this right here with you, Elliot,” Brooke said with a firm tone. She was surprised by herself that she was finally able to speak that out loud. Pain crossed his face. And it was not from his physical injury. It was her who hurt him this time. She refused to believe in him. He had nothing to do with Trisha again. Brooke looked back at him with a firm look. “I’m going to get married to Jackson, Elliot…” she then said as she turned around. “Brooke, I already know about that…The marriage was only on paper. It was nothing more, remember?!” Elliot shouted out as if she had dementia and forgot about that point. Brooke let out a smirk as she turned around, facing him. “I’m going to marry him for real this time, Elliot…Make sure you’ll come to our wedding.” She said with a victorious smile, closing the door behind her.
