Like Sarah and Geoff, they trusted them both not to cross a line, so once the initial suggestion had been raised Richard made a joke about Donna’s snoring keeping them awake, and ordered his daughter to take her bags to the far room next to Toby’s.
Donna made a point of objecting to the insinuation that she snored, but she did not dwell on the point just in case her father changed his mind and invited her back to their side of the landing.
Once the rooms had been sorted, everybody retired to the kitchen for lunch.
The kitchen was dominated by a large Aga range cooker which Sonia started up to help warm the house.
They made soup and sandwiches which they ate at the kitchen table and everyone but Cedric washed their lunch down with the first drink of the season.
