Chapter 6

Michael POV I never planned to be attracted to her. What the hell happened? I can't get that scene out of my head. I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temple. What have I gotten myself into? I was disrupted from my thoughts by a knock. "Yes? " "You called for me. " "Yes. Send the ten million dollars to the bank details I forwarded to you. " "Okay. " "Also find a time suitable for a dinner with my mum. " "Sure. " "You can go. " Mum is too impatient. And if I do not show her that I have someone, she will probably dump someone on me. I wonder what Alicia is doing. I don't know when her shift starts or ends. I should probably go get a snack from the café. I laughed at myself. A very silly excuse to see her. There she was, behind the counter attending to someone. I walked up to her and sat down on the stool. "Hey. " I greeted casually. "Hello. What can I get you? " "The usual. " "Which is? " Weird. "Coffee with no sugar "Coming up. " Only God knows what is with the attitude. "How are you doing? " I asked hoping to draw her into a real conversation. "As you can see for yourself I'm working and I'm just waiting for my shift to end. Quietly. " What a reply! Quietly ? Am I like a disturbance? What the hell was I doing here anyway? "My order. " "Sure just a minute. " After a minute or two I got my order, muttered a thanks and went back to the office. She was acting so cold to me. Different from the woman that was laughing so freely at what her coworker had said. There is no reason to care about her attitude towards me. It is not like we're in a relationship or I want to be in one. A knock on my door disrupted my thoughts. I guess I needed it. " Yes. " "I've sent the money and the dinner is set for tomorrow by 7 pm. " "Alright , got it. " He left, and I leaned back again, the quiet of the office swallowing me whole. Tomorrow. Dinner. Mum. Alicia. I frowned, tapping my fingers against the desk. I doubt she even has a dress for a formal dinner. I guess I'll have to take care of that the next day. I got home and took a shower before heading down for dinner. She wasn't at the table yet or she decided not show up. That is not like her, but why should I care. I ate my dinner and went back to my room. I worked on my laptop till 10 pm. I still had a lot to do but decided to take a break. I went down to get something to drink and to my surprise I saw the Cook, Jeff still in the kitchen. "What is the problem? why are you still here? " "Miss Alicia didn't come down to eat at all sir. " "Are you being serious? " "Yes. I've been here the whole time. " "Okay heat it up so I can take it to her. " "Okay. " Seriously what is with the attitude? Was she upset or something? I knocked on her door and got no reply so I went in with no invitation. "Alicia? " No reply. Turned on the lights and saw her laying on the bed covered. "Alicia? " I went closer to check on her only to see her shivering under the covers. What in God's name happened? I checked her pulse and it was weak and she was feverish, her temperature was way above the normal. It was 11 pm and too late to call a doctor over. I had to do the cold water and towel treatment to bring the fever down. I was so sure she would throw up the food I brought up, so I had to ask Jeff to quickly do a soup. I sat her up and made her comfortable with a pillow, only for me to hear her muttering. "Go away. I don't want to eat and I don't want anything with you. " Even in sickness. What a funny a girl. "You have to eat to regain your strength. And you're too weak for an argument right now. " " I can take care of myself." "You can not" "I can." Stubborn too. "Okay, feed yourself." I handed over the spoon to her and watched her try to eat. Her hands were shaking and was not steady, making a mess all over. "Now can you allow me feed you?" She nodded quietly. What a child! Laughing to myself at how stubborn and childish she is. I fed her the much she could take. Enough to get her by. She did not utter a single word throughout. After a while I laid her down and placed the towel on her forehead and covered her up. I may have to cancel the dinner with mum if she does not get better by tomorrow. I brought the chair closer and sat down wondering how she became so feverish. She was fine this morning . Was it triggered by something? All these were running through my head as I sat there. I did not realize when I fell prey to sleep.
