"I know," Eli said, pressing down on the pedal and propping himself on the seat of his massive red bicycle. He gestured toward the handlebars. "Hop on and sit there. I'll drive." I eyed the bicycle warily, then looked back at him. "Huh?" "Sit on the handlebars," he repeated, leaning toward me. "You'll barely have to touch it, and I'll get us both where we need to go while you enjoy the scenery." I hesitated, unsure of what to do. It wasn't every day that a stranger offered to take you on a bike ride. But there was something about Eli's confident smile that put me at ease.
