Sniffing the air, something in the back of the bear’s mind unsettled him, though he didn’t know what. He performed an extra couple of circuits of the outside of John’s cottage, just to make doubly sure.
Finally satisfied that there was nothing nearby that could threaten John, the bear turned for the cliff steps. He needed to run off some of his frustrations at the human half of his nature’s inability or unwillingness to have claimed John when he’d had the chance.
