Though she wasn’t that type of girl, she had struggled too hard to reduce herself to this moment. But pride would not pay for Lilian’s surgery, pride would not stop the homeowner from chasing them out if their rent is due. Maria gulped hard. Her eyes were burning, but she held the tears. Sir, she said quietly, “I really need money.” Mike’s expression did not change. “How much?” Mary hesitated. In her mind she saw her sister’s face, her chest tightened. She lifted her eyes fully for the first time and looked at Mike directly. “All I need is one hundred dollars,” Mary said. Mike’s brows went up a bit as he did not expect her to speak up. Mary's voice shook a little. She kept looking at him straight. “One hundred dollars?” There was silence. Something inside of her changed. One part of her really wanted to run out of the room, never to come back, but she was caught between shame and fear. She whispered, as if speaking to herself more than him, I have never done this before.but now, I don’t have a choice. Mike’s eyes stayed on her face, searching. Mary forced the words out properly this time, her voice clearer. Sir, you have nothing to worry about. “I’m not here to set you up. All I need is the money.” Mike’s jaw dropped. “What for? She didn’t feel like answering. But she answered anyway. “ I need the money for my sister’s heart surgery. Something shifted in the room. Not softness… Mike didn’t suddenly become gentle, but the air changed, like the story in her mouth had entered the space and refused to be ignored. Mike looked away bitterly, then back to her face. “Do you have a bank account?” Mary nodded quickly. “ Yes. “Say your account number.” Mary hesitated again. Giving her account details to this man felt like steeping into water she couldn’t measure. But she said it. He took his phone, tapped once, tapped twice, as if he had done this one thousand times and money meant nothing to him. “You’ll get it,” he said. Mary’s lips parted. Just like that? Mike’s gaze returned to her, cold and sharp again. “Do you want it or not?” “I do,” she said quickly. He stepped closer. Mary's breath caught again. This time it wasn’t just fear that she felt. This time she felt something that she did not understand, something that made her really mad at herself. Mike’s eyes stayed on her face and his voice faded. “Look at me.” Mary didn’t understand why her body obeyed. She lifted her eyes. For a long moment, Mike simply stared at her …the tiredness in her eyes, the quiet stubbornness, the beauty that didn’t ask for permission. Then he spoke softly. “Are you sure?” Mary felt tense. She should have rejected him. She should have walked away from it. She could find another way to deal with her problem, even if it took her a long time. But, she was exhausted from waiting, she was tired of watching her sister suffer. Mary nodded once. Mike’s hand came up and cupped the side of her face, firm but not rough. Mary trembled. Then he kissed her. It wasn’t gentle, wasn’t slow. It was sharp, like something he had been holding back. Mary stopped moving for a second. When the part of her saying no finally disappeared, she kissed him back really fast. Like she was trying to forget the scared part of her, she kissed him like she wanted to get lost in the feeling. He took her waist. Kissed her gently. Their tongues touched. He held her breast with care to feel its warmth. He lifted her like a baby and placed her on his bed. I’m scared, she said softly. “Of what?” he asked. Trembling,“Pain” “I’ll handle you with care,” he assured her. He licked her c******s long enough to be sure she was fully ready for what was coming. Then, he slid in carefully. At first Mary felt a sharp pain. He held him tightly and gasped for air. Mike realized she had never known any man, and he slid in more gently this time around, again and again, till the room disappeared. Everything became breath and warmth, the soft rustle of fabric and the heavy silence of choices being made too fast. Mary didn’t remember when they moved away from the door. She didn’t remember when the light got dimmed. She only remembered the pain in her stomach and how her heart felt sad even when her body was with him. Morning came quietly without apologizing. Mary woke up fast feeling confused by the thing under her and the nice smell around her. She sat up. Saw that she was in Mike Williams' bed. Her body felt heavy. Her mouth felt dry. She pulled the sheet tighter around herself, shame rising like heat. Then she heard his voice. “Drink this.” Mary turned sharply. Mike stood across the room already dressed, looking like he had never slept at all …crisp shirt, perfect trousers, composed face, same cold eyes. “Sir….” “Take it,” he said, as if he was giving an order to a staff member. Mary stared at him, she collected the glass of water from him. “Thank you, sir,” she said. He didn’t reply. He simply picked up his phone. “Say your account details again,” he said coldly. Mary's hand tightened around the glass. “Why sir,?” “Just say it,” he interrupted her sharply. She repeated her account number details slowly. Mike tapped on his phone. “You’ll receive the transfer. I gave you extra money. I don’t want any problems,” he said. Mary’s heart squeezed… partly relief, partly humiliation, partly fear. Mike’s eyes lifted to hers. “ And listen. She held her voice. His voice lowered, sharp with warning. “ Don’t mistake this for anything else. Mary nodded quickly. “ I understand, sir. “I don’t like noise,” Mike added. “I don’t like people who cling.” Mary forced the words out, steady. "I will not hold on to you, sir, " she said. He stared at her for a moment like he was trying to confirm whether she’s saying the truth. Then he stepped away from the door. Mary slid out of the bed, pulled her uniform back on with shaking hands, and kept her face as blank as she could. She didn’t look at him again. She quietly left the room like she had never been there. The door shut behind her. Mary rested on the wall for a moment, taking deep breaths. Her chest was sore. Her eyes were on fire.. She did not cry.. Not here. Not in this building. She wiped her tears with the tip of her apron. She said to herself,“ Lilian needs this money. She walked through the corridor, her body was shivering. She could no longer hold herself; she finally stopped crying. She cried her heart out hoping to feel better. Her legs were trembling, she held them with her hands until they stopped. When she finally got outside, morning had fully arrived. She sat on a low concrete edge not far from the staff room’s entrance. She brought out her small phone, and stared at it for a while before she turned it on. A bank alert popped up almost immediately. Two hundred thousand dollars. The sender's name was there : Mike Williams. Mary's jaw dropped. Relief came first. Then shame followed, slow and hot. She closed her eyes and wept. “ This money is for Lilian. “ I did this for her.” She encouraged herself. That thought was the only thing that helped her stand up and move. That morning, Mike Willam was sitting in his office chair like everything was fine. His face was calm, his suit was properly ironed, he had a nice haircut, and his cold eyes that made people be careful around him. Only his personal assistant, Julius Martin, dared to speak freely around him. Julius was in his early thirties, clean hair cut and always holding a tablet like it was part of his body. He had been working with Mike for years. He knows when his mood is good, and he understands him better than anyone else. He adjusted his tie. “ Sir, Julius said, Next month's end is your grandma’s appointment at the family hospital. She requested you follow her. “When?” Mike asked without looking up. “Saturday,” Julius answered. “I’ll be there,” Mike replied sharply. Later that day, Mike sat alone in his study. He had been acting strange since that night. It was because, after he struggled to penetrate her, he later saw a blood stain on the bedsheets the following morning. The reality hit him harder. Mary was truly a virgin. The discovery unsettled him. He had assumed he was just another lady chasing quick money, but this was different. Her innocent eyes gave him the answers…the fear, the eagerness to get out of the room. She left really fast without even looking back at him. Mike had not felt much of anything, but now he felt something inside of him… not guilt, not pride, but interest. He called Julius. “That woman that works as a maid in my mansion… finds out about her,” Mike said simply. Julius was used to his boss being guarded around by women, so he didn’t question it. After digging around quietly, Julius came back with the report. “Mary David was 21. Her mother passed away when she was fourteen. Her father disappeared without trace after six years. She has a sister born with a heart disease. She started working with us months after she finished college.” Mike sat back, silent. Now he understood… She wasn’t cheap. She was a girl striving to keep her sister alive. He took a thick breath. “Delete everything,” he told Julius firmly. “No one should know about this.” Julius nodded. “ Understood, sir.”
