The next afternoon, Eric presented Caroline with a diamond necklace of a simple design.  Caroline ran her fingers over the teardrop-shaped pendant and casually inquired, "What's the occasion for this necklace all of a sudden?" "A husband needs no reason to give his wife a gift," he said as he fastened the necklace around her neck and kissed her cheek. "And don't you take it off!"
