"Sophia, long time no see." Eva's voice dripped ice. "For weeks I wondered—how did everyone suddenly learn I was in Houston? Now that James dragged you here, it all makes sense. You're the rat who squealed to Charlotte, aren't you?" Sophia jutted her chin out. "What, here to settle scores?" Eva sprang up like a panther, her glacial stare pinning Sophia in place as she closed the distance. Fingers like steel clamps dug into Sophia's shoulder. The woman before her bore little resemblance to the meek girl from five years ago. This version radiated danger, making Sophia's skin crawl. Eva leaned in until their noses almost touched. "Want out?" she whispered, breath hot against Sophia's ear. "Then follow my lead exactly." With a violent shove, Eva sent Sophia slamming onto the marble floor.
