Falling for the nerd

Chapter seven - Results

Alex's POV:

Finally, the test passed. I think that I did well and Elle too since she rejected my help. Today we will know our results. If I have to be honest, Elle has studied a lot and I think that she will have the grade, which she wanted. I won't lie that I thought that after the test, she will leave, but no. Elle is still my friend and I like that. She has proved to me many times that she is nothing like the people in school. If everything is how is it up to know, I think that we can have a great friendship. I only hope that she won't get in trouble for being my friend. 

Currently, I am having breakfast with my parents. Mom has made pancakes, which are delicious. I have tried from the store, but it's not the same. My mom's are the best. 

- Are you excited about today? - mom asked me

- And why do I have to be?

- Isn't today when the teacher will give you the results from the test? 

- It's just a test like all the others. There's nothing special about it. 

- For you maybe, but what about Elle?

- Probably she is freaking out. - I laughed

The last two days Elle was freaking out and was nervous. I know that she wants to know if she did good or not, but this is not the test of her life. There will be more. Moreover, if she didn't get what she wanted, I can help her to study. I don't think that she will deny it. 

- I am sure that she did well. Every day you were at her house to study. - dad said

- I hope so. Otherwise, she won't be happy and it will mean that I have failed as a teacher as well. 

When I finished my breakfast, I walked to school. As always, every time when I walk in, people give me looks. You think that up to now I should get used to it, but I didn't. I can't understand what is wrong with me. Do I look that bad? If it's for the glasses, I can't remove them. I can't see anything without them. I have tried to wear contact lenses, but I couldn't get used to that. With glasses, I feel better. I tried to ignore everybody and walked to my locker. In front of it was Elle. 

- Good morning. From how long are you here?

- Like ten minutes. I decide to give you a positive start to your day, but I guess that someone already made you sad. - she said

- That's not true. I just had the usual looks. 

- I couldn’t sleep the whole night.

- Why? Did something happen?

- Yes. I want to see my results. I couldn't stop thinking of them. - Elle said, which made me laugh

- I am sure that you did well. Stop thinking about it. 

- But I can't. I am very nervous. 

- Yeah, I can see. I'll get my things and we'll go to class, ok?

- Sure. 

I quickly got what I needed and both of us walked to our first class. We were the only people in the room, so no looks this time. I hope that we won't be the only ones. All the time Elle was talking about this test. I like her, but this is annoying me. 

- Can we talk about something else? Please. 

- I'm sorry. I have never studied so much in my entire life. 

- I understand this, but it's getting annoying and since I am saying it, you can imagine the rest. - I laughed

- I do. So how are you? Anything new? Jasper and his friends haven't done anything to you, right?

- From the last two days they haven't talked with me.

- Good. That's how it should be. 

- I don't know. It feels a little bit weird. I think that soon they will do it. He won't miss an opportunity to "talk" with me. If you understand. 

- You need to be more positive. Moreover, I am with you so nothing like that will happen to you. 

- Thank you. 

Soon everybody came into the room and we started with the lesson. Maddie was sitting next to us and all the time she was giving me smirks. I am sure that soon or not she will do something for me. Even if it's only words, they still hurt me. Yes, I am from the people who can get hurt easily. I am also shy and anti-social. I don't know how a girl like Elle is my friend. We are exactly the opposite. 

At the end of the class, I walked out as fast as possible. This girl is creeping me out. I heard Elle running right after me. 

- Alex, wait. I can't run so fast. 

I walked into an empty classroom and she came as well. 

- Alex, what is going on?

- Maddie. She didn't stop giving me smirks the whole class. I think that soon she will do something. 

- She won't do anything, because how I have said, I will be with you the whole time. 

- But what if she does it even when you are with me?

- I won't let her. Now stop thinking so much about this and let's get ready for our next class. 

Now we have Physics, which means that Elle can finally have her results. The teacher came in and started the lesson. 

- I will give your results from the tests at the end of the class. - she said

I saw that Elle was nervous. More than this morning. Without realizing it, she grabbed my hand under the desk. I looked at her and she pulled away. 

- I'm sorry. 

- It's ok. 

Until the end of the class, we didn't talk to each other. I like Elle, but not when she is doing these things, especially in a room full of people. I already have enough problems. I don't want more. The teacher called all of us to come and get our tests. 

- Elle, can you stay for a while. I want to talk with you. 

- Um, yes. Sure. 

- Do you want me to wait for you?

- No, thanks. You can go if you want. 

With that, I left. Our break between the classes is small, but I decide to go to the football field. I told Elle where I'll be in case she wants to come. I went there and sat on one bench. Soon Maddie came with two of her girls. I was about to leave, but she didn't let me. Instead, she sat next to me. I got up and started walking, which made her do the same. Now she is in front of me. 

- How is my favorite nerd?

- Maddie, what do you want?

- Nothing. Just to tell you that Elle is only using you. When she gets what she wants, this girl will dump you. It's better if you leave her. 

- Elle won't do that. I trust her. 

- You need to believe me. I know how girls like her work. She is not who you are thinking she is. 

- I won't believe you. If there was something, she would have told me. Will you leave me?

- I'll see you when she dumps you. Bye nerd. - she said and left with her girls

I felt tears in my eyes. Elle won't do that, right? I won't lie that I still doubt that she is my friend, but I don't think that she is using me. Talking of her, I saw her running up to me. She hooked her legs around me and both of us fall down. 

- Alex, look at this. 

- Can you get off me?

- Yeah, I'm sorry. Now, look at this. 

- You got A+?

- No, we got it. Thank you so much. You are the best. - she said and hugged me

- Yes, I am. Since you get what you wanted, you can leave now. 

- What? I don't understand. Why do you want me to leave?

- Won't you do it anyway?

- No! What did she tell you?

- Who?

- Don't play games with me, Alex. What Maddie told you? I swear I am going to kill her. 

I didn't say anything and nodded my head. I don't know why I said all of this, but for a moment, I felt that she might leave and I don't want that. 

- Alex, I asked you something. Answer me. 

- She said that you are using me and when you get what you want, you will dump me. 

- And you believed her, didn't you?

- For a moment, yes. 

- I can't believe it. Alex, why would you do that?

- Because I have never had friends. Out of nowhere you came and decide to be my friend. Girls like you don't have friends boys like me. 

- I told you million times that there is nothing wrong with you. Will, you for once trust me?

- I trust you. It's just...

- That you still doubt in me. I get it. Don't worry. You can be alone as always. - she said and got up, but I quickly grabbed her hand and made her sit back down

- Please, don't leave. Try to understand me. I don't want to lose you. 

- Me either, but if you don't learn to ignore what people are telling you, I won't be able to help you. 

- I'm sorry Elle. I won't doubt you. Never. 

- You promise?

- I promise. 

With that, she gave me a hug and I felt a couple of tears on the back of my shirt. I am a horrible person. I need to listen to her, otherwise, I risk losing her and I don't want that. She is the only one who is by my side and who is helping people like Maddie and Jasper. 

Until the end of the classes, I was with her. At lunch, I received ten thousand times a thank you for this test. I won't have peace from her. I prefer that instead she to be gone. 

- Do you want to watch another movie with me at home? I won't make you feel awkward, I promise. - she laughed

- Yeah, why not?

- Do you want the special cookies?

- Do you have some?

- Now not, but I will tell Martha to bake you some. - she said smiling

- Deal. 

After school, both of us walked to her house. In the moment we entered, Martha showed us a plate full of cookies. I looked at her and she smiled. 

- One bird told me that you fell in love with my cookies. - she said

- Is there any chance that the bird is called Elle?

- I can't tell. Now take one. 

- They are so delicious. 

- I know. After all, I made them. - Martha said, which made me and Elle start laughing

- Thank you and we'll take them. Do you want to watch a movie with us?

- I would love to, but I have work to do. 

- It's your loss. Let's go, Alex. - Elle said and grabbed my hand

As we sat on the couch, Elle immediately snuggled. This time without asking. Not like I mind. I already got used to it and to be honest, I like that. I mean it feels comfortable. I can't imagine the popular girls from school doing that. I think that they do another type of thing, for which I don't want to know. 

- I know that I am always asking you, but will you stay for dinner? Today my parents won't be at home and I don't want to be alone. 

- Ok, then. I won't leave you alone. 

- Maybe we can make a movie night and a sleepover. - she said, which made to look at her

- What?

- I'm kidding. The dinner is enough. Well, we can still watch a movie while eating. If you want to. 

- I do, but if it's only that. 

- Don't worry, I don't want anything else from you. 

- I am glad to hear it. 

Until the end of the night, we watched movies and ate food. Elle is right for one thing. I should trust her, not the people who always are against me. Moreover, I know what type of girl she is. I don't think that she is pretending. My only hope is that nothing will bad happen. I don't want to lose the only friend that I have. Thank you for being with me, Elle. I appreciate it.
