51The tumult in the house chased Jake to the bedroom where he slammed the door closed behind him.
“You can’t stay here forever,” Beth shouted at Victoria from the kitchen. Beth’s girlfriend, Marlene, put a freshly brewed cup of orange mint tea in front of her.
“What’s your plan Vicky?” Beth yelled. “Where are you going to flop next?”
“f**k you!” Victoria’s rejoinder bounced off the walls. “Are you kicking us out?”
“Jake can stay,” Beth retaliated.
“Calm down, talk to her rationally,” Marlene spoke softly. “This is not doing anybody any good.”
“She’s impossible.” Beth wiped tears away with a kitchen towel.
