His first impulse was to tell Maxwell Crane but his friend was not in a position to pursue the matter for the bank. What he really wanted to do was inform Girardi who could certainly do what was needed: contact the local sheriff or the police in New York. Maybe he should also tell him about his suspicions about an intruder in his house. However, speaking with Girardi instead of Grace Woo would upset his boss again. Telling Woo first was the right thing to do despite the tension between them. He decided to suck it up.
