Chapter 36—Moana’s pov I stepped into the hallway going back to my office. That was when I saw Cairo. She was standing near the corner, pacing around, her phone in her hand, and her eyes darting around like she was waiting for something bad to happen. She almost jumped when she saw me. “Moana,” she said quickly. “What’s wrong?” I asked. My voice came out sharper than I intended. Something about her face already had my chest tight. She swallowed. “Your mother called me.” I stopped walking. “What?” I said. “She said she’s been calling your number,” Cairo continued, her words rushing now, “but you weren’t picking up, and she sounded… she sounded scared.” My stomach dropped. “Why didn’t she call me again?” I asked. “She said your phone kept going straight to voicemail,” Cairo said
