I didn't expect Ashton to really speak like that to his father because of Moana. Ashton would never let my plans succeed.
That truth settled into my bones as I sat alone in my room. I had replayed the last few minutes again and again in my head. The way he rejected his father's plan for Moana and how he really stood up for her which he has never done for me.
I clenched my fists on my lap.
I had tried patience. I had tried endurance. I had swallowed humiliation and smiled through disrespect because I believed that if I waited long enough, Ashton would eventually see me.
