Chapter 55_Nadine’s POV
I stepped out into the cool evening air, Selene was beside me, and for a moment I let the wind hit my face. I didn’t care about the chill. My mind was spinning too fast, buzzing with plans, with opportunity. Every instinct in me was alert, like a predator smelling weakness. And tonight, I smelled it everywhere.
Selene’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Nadine,” she said softly and hesitantly. I turned to her, raising an eyebrow, curious and slightly impatient. “I… I discovered something,” she continued, her tone trembling slightly, like she wasn’t sure how I would react. “Something you need to know.”
I tilted my head, letting the silence stretch, letting her feel the weight of my attention. “Go on,” I said calmly but my pulse had already quickened.
