Chapter 2: I need to go, now!

Lucas was born to have everything the world could offer to him. That’s what his parents have always thought since he was born. Because of his family background and how handsome he looks, Lucas has never faced any difficulties. But with such a blessed life comes people who would take advantage of his wealth.

Lucas had learned from his own experience that life is not all butterflies and happiness. But even so, he had his way of dealing with such a situation. So when he came across the mysterious woman at the airport who didn’t even take a second glance at him, he was baffled.

Lucas, who sat in the back seat looking as handsome as ever, nonchalantly looked at the silhouette of a woman not far from where the car was. He squinted his eyes, and he was sure that that was the same woman who bumped into him at the airport.

Natasha has lost count of how much time she spent walking on the long stretch of road when she finally collapsed next to a tree. She was trying to get some shade from the sun when her legs had given out. It doesn’t help that she was injured from her accident abroad.

Eric, who is driving, immediately stops the car before turning to Lucas.

"Sir, should we..."

Eric was about to ask Lucas if he should call for an ambulance when she realized his employer was no longer inside the car. Eric exited the vehicle and wanted to help Lucas, but he was too late. Eric was baffled by the sight of his employer, who immediately offered a helping hand to a stranger he just met briefly.

Since Lucas was little, he likes to keep everything clean and neat. Even his parents were a bit concerned to see how their son had gotten because of such a clean freak he is. The only reason why Lucas is not married, even though he’s the most sought-after bachelor in the country, is because no woman can stand his attitude.

Either Lucas deems those women not worthy, or they think Lucas is crazy for concerning himself with such little things. So when Eric saw Lucas lift a stranger woman who collapsed by the tree, he was bewildered.

“Sir, are you alright?”

Eric asked as his big emerald eyes widened from shock. He had been with Lucas for so long and had never seen him have such close contact with a woman. Despite his reaction, Eric quickly composed himself and returned to the car.

"Let’s go to the hospital.”

Lucas instructed as he got into the car. Eric sped up and headed towards Hawthorne's private hospital.

At the hospital,

When Natasha finally woke up, she had no idea where she was. Looking around, she realized she was lying on a hospital bed because she had caught a faint scent of disinfectant. And when she thought she was alone, a voice startled her.

"Miss, you're awake."

Eric stood by the bed.

Natasha looked at him, and a hint of surprise flickered in her eyes. The question in her mind was, did this man stare at her sleeping?

"Hello, did you bring me to the hospital?"

"Yes."

Eric smiled slightly,

"Miss Astor, you might not remember, but we had an encounter overseas before. I accidentally hit you with my car, but you ran away before I could take you to the hospital. The doctor said your dizziness was caused by emotional excitement and not having breakfast. You need to stay in the hospital for observation for two more days."

Immediately, the scene where she was hit by a car played in her head. Natasha had just received the news about her family when she got into an accident. Natasha decided to flee because she thought she was alright. But she never thought that the person who hit her would be the one who brought her to the hospital this time.

Upon hearing this, Natasha scoffed and said,

"Thank you, but I don't need to stay in the hospital. I have some urgent matter to attend to.”

There were a lot of things waiting for her at home. She has to take care of what is left of her family. Now that her father is gone and her mother has passed away, the once-great Astor family is nothing but a speck of dust in everyone’s eyes. How could a family that was once a leading figure in the financial world could collapse in a short amount of time?

When Natasha was about to pull the needle from her hand, she realized something was off.

“How did you know my surname is Astor?”

Natasha asked.

“Well-“

Eric hesitated. It was strange even for him. They only had one encounter overseas and once at the sorority, yet Lucas already knew the girl's name. How did his employer know about this girl’s identity?

"Well, your phone was out of battery, and when I took it to charge, I accidentally saw the messages that popped up."

Eric explained and handed her the fully charged phone.

"What?! Oh no!"

Natasha took the phone and suddenly remembered that Richard was coming back. If he couldn't find her, he would be worried about her. As soon as she unlocked her phone, there were text messages, phone calls, and even a telegram from Richard and his mother, Christina.

"Thank you."

Natasha pulled the IV line in her hand and quickly said to Eric,

“I’m sorry, but I have something important to do. I can't stay any longer! Don't worry, I'm fine. See- I can walk just fine. So thank you again.”

After saying that, Natasha didn't allow Eric to react and rushed to the door. But as soon as she opened it, she was met with a large figure that almost made her fall. The man immediately grabbed a hold of Natasha’s waist before she could hit the floor.

"Where are you going?"

A deep and cold voice came from the man, causing Natasha’s heart to tremble.

"I..."

The man's intimidating presence left Natasha at a loss for words.

“Your hand is bleeding. Did you forcefully pull the needle from your hand?!”

Lucas gave Eric a look before Eric went to get the nurses in charge.

“What? No- I’m fine. I need to go now. I have some important matter to attend to. Please, I’m really fine.”

Natasha was about to leave and stumble forward when Lucas caught her body again.

“Are you trying to kill yourself? Not only do you refuse treatment, but now you’ll bleed yourself to death. I never seen a woman who is so daring in my life.”

Lucas lifted Natasha off the floor and carried her in his arms before placing her on the bed. Moments later, a few nurses came into the ward together with Eric. Natasha still tries to leave and even begs the nurses to let her go, but her situation is not going her way.

“Miss, if you continue to act this way, we have no choice but to sedate you.”

The nurse warned, finally making Natasha sit still on the bed as she returned the IV line to her hand. Lucas watched as the stubborn woman from earlier acted docile for once.

As the nurses took care of her, Natasha saw the man who carried her to the bed. She was shocked to see such a beautiful piece of art standing before her, giving the nurses a stern look as they did their job. Natasha thought that if looks could drill, the nurses would have holes in their bodies from such intense stares.

Even Richard isn’t as good looking at this man. Natasha shook the thought as she thought about something she shouldn’t about her fiancé. Richard has been there since they were little. They promise to be together forever when Richard finally proposes to her before she goes to study abroad. Even though they haven’t met much, Natasha knows Richard stays true to his words.

When the nurses left, Natasha noticed the man with a chiseled jaw seemed to be in an intense conversation with the man who gave Natasha her phone earlier. When the gentlemen finally turned to her, Natasha was surprised.

“You have to stay at least a night here at the hospital. Let the doctor monitor you just for a night. With your condition, you won’t stand a chance of facing whatever important matter you have to attend to. Rest, and tomorrow, you can leave.”

Natasha was about to decline when she changed her mind and nodded. Something tells her that this handsome man wouldn’t let her leave in any way possible.

“But-“

Natasha tried her luck, but the handsome man just gave her a look, making her heart tremble again. Even Richard wasn’t as concerned about her health before. So why would a perfect stranger be this way?

“Fine.”

Natasha couldn’t believe as a grown woman, she was treated like a child. Even she couldn’t help but listen to what this man said. His cold voice and intense looks were enough to shut her up. Natasha needs to find a way to leave because if she stays, Richard and his mother will be worried for her.

Just when she was about to say something, Natasha received a text from Richard asking where is she. Natasha doesn’t know what to reply as she looks up to the man who forbids her from leaving.

“What is it?”
