Chapter 7

1017 Words
Sophia's POV. "And who said that you were government property?" A voice said from behind us, and I turned my gaze, and that of Marco immediately turned towards the door as Damian stepped in, closing the door behind him. I was staring at him in silence, not sure of what my response was supposed to be, as the anger within had all of a sudden begun to cool off. As if his mere presence was playing with my mind. He gave a signal to Marco, who all of a sudden walked away from the room, closing the door behind him as he walked out, and at that moment I held my breath, staring at him. "Who gave information that you were government property? By when you say that I'm using you as leverage to get my shipments from the government, but that is not because I think of you as government property. I only know that the place puts a lot of value on you, and they might consider doing that for me if I keep you with me with a promise to let you go if they do that," he said to me, but at that moment I shook my head in disagreement. "No, Damian, I refuse to agree with that. You believe that I am leverage and that the government sees me as something of value... What else does a property mean? I mean, if the government considers me of value to be able to give you a favor in exchange for me, then it means that I am theirs, and they would do anything to get me away from you, which you believe so much that it is making you keep me here with you," I said to him this time, staring directly at his face with the anger in me rising again. "Sophia..." he said, and I all of a sudden went mute because there was something about the way he called my name that was a little unusual. It felt as if it was not just my name he was calling but the meaning and the depth in the word. "You do not get to play a mind game on me anymore, Damien. I am a person, and I have my rights. One of my rights is freedom of movement, and I accept this is an a*******n. You have no right to keep me here against my wish," I said to him in a loud voice. "She is right, Damian; you cannot keep her here when she does not want to be here. What is the matter with you? Is this business about that is making you put a young lady through so much suffering?" His mother acts, and we put our gaze on her, as neither of us noticed when she walked in. At that moment I turned my sight away from her. "What the hell, Mother? Can I speak to Sophia alone, please?" he said to his mother, who did not seem to agree as she stood her ground with her hands on her waist. "I am not going to watch you punish her, Damian. She has done nothing to you, and, like you have already heard her say, she's not the property of the government. If you have an issue with the government, you should take it out on them the same way you used to in the past, not on an innocent girl." The honesty in her voice as she spoke of the concern and the pain The bitterness, the love, all of these emotions, and trained in her ways as she spoke to Damian, I could hear Damian. It was Part of my job is to read into people like that, and as I told my kids slowly to her, I realized that she cared so much about Damien, but there was nothing she could do to help him out of the lifestyle that he seemed to have mastered so much. In her own way, she was doing everything she could to keep him sane and in his humanity. However, that was the least she could do. "Other, I demand some time to speak. With Sofia, I promise we'll talk about this later," he said to his mother this time in a strangely calm voice as he walked over to her and took to his hands and knees, looking straight into her eyes. If the thought of their war is to be each other, she did not say any more but tapped him on the shoulder and walked out of the door. "Isn't it strange how a man with your nature has such an amazing mother when some of us would do whatever it takes to make our mothers proud but were denied one?" I asked him as it turned around to face me. However, he did not seem to be in the mood for such conversation anymore, as a look on his face instantly darkened, and he was staring at me with an intense look. "I asked you to do one thing. I asked you to not say a word about how you got here to her, but instead you did, and you think it is something that I would condone?" He asked me as he began to take those steps towards me. At that moment I could hear my own heart beat as it was so loud that I had to hold my hand on my chest as if I could stop it from beating so fast. Not knowing what to respond And slowly I begin to take some steps back away from the backstory I was leaning on. "Is it not a simple request that you do not tell her how you got here?" He said it to me again, and I found myself shaking. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out of my mouth. I was moving backwards until my back suddenly hit the wall, and I realized that there was no way out to run, and just before me stood Damian, staring with his piercing gaze on me.
