Chapter Two

1315 Words
Zane's POV I didn't turn my head before realizing who it was. It was always these men who thought they could match up to me. The hostess looked at me slowly before speaking. “Six hundred million going?” She said and the countdown began, everyone looking at me. “Eight hundred million.” I calmly replied that everyone was looking back at William, and I could tell he was burning with rage. William paying that much would put him in debt instantly. “Eight hundred million going?” The hostess called and as the countdown hit zero, confetti were blown everywhere. “Congratulations, Mr. Hills.” Skylar looked at me, but I just ignored her, staring at the wine bottle in front. Skylar stood up, heading towards the stage to finalize the deal. “You should have done that earlier.” I said to her immediately she came to sit beside me and from the corner of my eyes, I could see her looking at me with annoyance, like she wanted to say something, but she kept it to herself and just focused on the stage where other events were taking place. I wasn't interested in other wines but the first since I've come to realize that they intentionally display the most interesting wines first. The rest were just any type of wines. “Has the recipe been given to you?” I asked her and she nodded, going through something on the iPad with her. “What is that?” I asked her in a cold tone. “The recipe.” She replied in a slightly annoyed tone, and I could tell she was trying hard to suppress it, but she failed miserably. There was something about her anger which intrigued me to make her even more angry. Nothing amuses me but that as I just wanted to see more of her anger. “Mr. Hills, would you do the honor or handing it over to him?” The hostess asked me, looking at the bottle of wine on the display pillar next to her. I remained in my seat, staring at her and when Skylar saw I was unwilling to stand, she did it instead and just went to do as I was asked. What was the point of going when I had her seated right next to me and it was all part of her job doing what I wasn't feeling like doing now. Everyone already knew she would do whatever I didn't feel like, so it was no surprise to them. “Thank you, miss Miller.” The hostess appreciated her as she walked over to me with a glass of wine, I had seen her pour from the sample, and she handed it over to me. “And what am I supposed to do with it?” I asked her with a raised brow, and she stared back at me. And that was when I remembered she wasn't much of a wine person and although I didn't want to participate in any of their nonsense, it was still considered rude to refuse the tasting of the wine at a winery auction. I took the glass from her, and I gulped the wine once. It wasn't sweet and it wasn't bitter either, but the intoxication filled my senses instantly. It might be less expensive, but it was just as intoxicating. “It's an alcoholic drink, sir. And advisable to drink slowly.” Skylar said, not even turning to look at me. And she was just telling me now? “Do you value your job, Miss Miller?” I asked her with slight annoyance. “Of course, I do, Mr. Hills but you drank it all up before I could warn you, so it technically is not my fault.” She replied with a small smile. Although the effect of the wine wasn't strong immediately, I knew if I was called up to present another wine collection, then I might end up getting drunk. I drank a lot, but it had been a while since I've done that and it must be having a strong side effect. “We would like to invite Miss Miller, to receive the sample of the purchased wine.” The hostess called to Skylar who stood up, heading up to the stage once again and took the glass that had just been poured out for her with a bright smile. I couldn't tell what she was trying to do but it had something to do with making me drink that glass. “Why don't you drink it? I don't care about your drinking capabilities.” I shot at her coldly as she handed me the glass. “Mr. Hills, when it comes to the sample of the bid you won, I'm sorry but you have to drink it on your own.” She placed the cup by my side after taking a sip of it before turning back to the screen. I didn't know why I felt excited as she took a sip from it. The drunk looked even more enticing, and I wanted to try it out. Without a second thought, I took the glass and gulped it but unlike the first one, it felt just like water, fizzy water to be precise. Suddenly, I started feeling all fuzzy on the inside. Why on earth were these wines created if only one glass could make you feel dizzy and weak. I soon got a grip on myself but was still feeling a bit tipsy. “You appear to be drunk, sir.” Skylar said that her eyes were not coming in my direction. “I'm not.” I replied to her, my voice slightly hoarse. I don't know if the drink was supposed to make me feel warm and aroused and my conclusion could only go to one thing and that was the wine was drugged. “Damn it.” I cursed under my breath, looking at Skylar who was still going through whatever it was she was doing. “Do you need any help, sir?” She finally turned her head to look at me, and she could see my face was flushed as I covered my face with my palm immediately, she looked at me. “You look sick.” She said, touching my forehead which was only making the effect of the drug worse. As she leaned towards me, from her tiny, strapped dress, I could see the outline of her chest and it made me look more around, making my face burn hotter than it was. “I'm fine.” I replied as calmly as I could. “It's just a slight reaction.” I waved her off and she nodded gently before slowly looking back at the stage where other things were going on. If she wasn't feeling aroused or anything, was it because it was the first drink that was drugged and not the second? But if it was the second, then they wouldn't have specifically called her to take the drink and would have called my name. “Do you feel strange after the drink?” I asked her and she shook her head negatively. “I didn't take much of it.” She replied looking at the empty glass and I turned away so she wouldn't see my flushed face or even suspect my hardness. “Damn it. You just wait till I find out who that bastard is.” I cussed underneath my breath before looking at my wrist. “Take me home.” She looked at me with a raised brow, and I tried hard not to groan. “But…” “You heard me, Miss Miller.” I said in a dangerous tone, and she nodded before standing up. Suddenly, the entirety hall was filled with sounds of gunshots. “F*CK! Not today.”
