22. Flaky EmbersThe D-Boat cruised its way down the Why River on its way to Port Cord. Sabienn sat in the wheelhouse looking downcast and trodden. He glanced occasionally out the window. There were a couple kissing on the shoreline. There were others laughing and drinking. How can people be happy when I’m broken? “53. Clear,” came a voice. Sabienn became aware of his surrounds. “Use the radio again and you’re dead, sir,” said another voice. Looking to the Turr vessel driver, Sabienn saw a man who was not there by choice. A black uniformed operative holding a pistol kept company with Sabienn and the driver in the wheelhouse. “What will become of me, sir?” enquired the driver. “You’ll be looked after,” said the uniform. Keeping his eyes on the river before him, the driver wept quietly.
