  He groaned. “Last time she and James…”   The last time Megan had come for a visit, James had been absolutely smitten, and by the end of the first day, Megan and the drummer had stayed up later than the rest of the band and between them polished off a couple of bottles of champagne. They had disappeared into James’ hotel room and when James had come staggering out late the next morning, he had worn the stunned look of a deer in the headlights and had bruises on his behind for almost two weeks after Megan departed.   “I know,” Emily remembered, with clarity. “He still asks me when she will next come stay.” But Megan did not ask, which was interesting.
