When I get the text from Nalani, an unforgiving ache pierces through my heart, and I immediately shove Gwen off me, rushing to my feet.
“Ow,” she moans, holding her shoulder as she sits up on the bed to look at me. “What did you do that for?” Gwen asks with an irritated look on her face, and I hurry my words out as I dial Nalani’s number.
“Nalani is upset about something,” I say, and my heart begins to pound. “I don’t know what it’s about.”
“Oh. That,” Gwen says dismissively, and I force her to tell me what she knows, only to realize that she has made Nalani aware of our affair.
“Why would you do that?” I ask with bulging eyes, but I’m already getting dressed and ready to go find Nalani. Gwen doesn’t sound like she feels she did anything wrong, but I don’t have time for her n
