When Two Worlds Collide

Chapter three

After eating dinner, Jasmine called her parents via video call. At the third ring, her mother picked up the call.

'Temidire, how are you doing? ' her mom said as soon as she picked up

'Maami, I'm fine. A dupe lowo Olorun' She replied. ( My mother, We thank God ).

'So how is it going over there? Have you found any job yet? '

'No mummy, I'm almost getting tired already'

'Pele don't be everything will be fine' Her mum reassured her (Sorry)

'How is dad? Where is he? I can't see him beside you'

'Awn awn my beautiful daughter is asking of me. I'm right here Temidire' her dad answered from behind her mum.

'There comes my favorite daddy in the whole wide world- sss' she said answering him with a wide smile plastered on her face.

'So you will ignore me now that you have seen your father' her mom chipped in. They all laughed. Later her mum left to attend to something related to her job.

'Daddy, there is something I want to discuss with you' she said to get his attention.

'Yes dear, what is it that is bothering you'

'Daddy I wish to go back to Nigeria, I'm tired of the embarrassment of being black here. It's frustrating and over whelming. It's only a handful of people who loves me for who I am. I'm fed up'

'Temidire it is well. Just have a little faith and everything will soon be fine.' her dad encouraged her

'So I should just continue applying for jobs and I will get one. Is that what you are trying to say'

'Yes, if there are any job vacancy available, apply for it and wait for miracles to happen'

'Oda mo ti gbo I want to go to bed now. I love you and tell mummy I love her too' ( Okay I have heard)

'Okay I will tell her. It is well with you'

'Amen daddy. Bye'

She hung up the call. She took her laptop in order for her to apply for the job at the Accounting department. She said her night prayer and went to sleep.

William got home that night, his emotions has turned down and he was not happy that he did not get to see Jasmine at the cafe. Since their argument in the morning he has not heard from Audrey which he was happy about. He just wished that Jasmine would apply for the job he wants to recruit staffs for. He freshened up and ate the dinner he microwaved which has been cooked earlier by the chef he employed. He woke up from his sleep by the constant ringing of his phone. He saw the caller to be his mom. Why was she calling him this early morning? He does not know so he picked. On picking up his mom quickly said in a breath, 'William quick come to the family hospital?'

'Mom what ...'

'Don't ask questions. Just come.'

He quickly dressed up, got his car keys and left for the hospital.

He met his mom in a worn out state when he got to the hospital. It was a family hospital so he knew his way around there. He knew he couldn't ask questions from her since she wasn't in a right state of mind. He just hugged her to himself. His grand ma and mom had a mother to daughter relationship even though they are not related which was traced to the way his mom is now. They had been through thick and thin as he had heard from the stories narrated by his grand ma during his childhood. They were tight knitted individuals.

'Don't worry she will be fine' He said calmly

'How can you say that? You were not there when she fell down from the stairs. She missed a step and fell. William she rolled down... hiccups. She rolled down. And you said she would be fine.' She said shedding tears she was trying hard to wipe. William did not interrupt her giving her the space to speak.

'She will be fine' he kept chanting into her ears to calm her down.

After what looks like hours, the doctor came out from the emergency room. He called for the families of the patient. William took his mom with him to the doctor's office.

'Well done doctor, what is wrong with my grand ma' He asked as soon as he sat down after placing his mom beside him.

'Mr Brittain, your grand ma is suffering from Osteoporosis. A fracture in the hip causes by the fall she had while climbing down the stairs.' Doctor Ace replied.

'So what can be done now.'

'There is really not much we can do now. We will place her on a medication but before that she will be on bed rest for two weeks. She will also be needing a wheelchair to aid her movements for the meantime before we suggest using crutches or walking stick.' Doctor Ace explained.

'Okay doctor thank you' he replied and left with his mother. They went to the room where his grand ma has been transferred to. His mom was silent all the way there.

He called Ivan informing him to postpone all his meeting till the following week. He decided to stay at the family house with his mom and grand ma. Mrs Shantel has not woken up and is still in a mild coma. She is expected to be awake by the next morning and ready to be discharged with a nurse going along with her.

'Mom you have to rest. Let me take you home.'

'No William I want to stay here with Ma.'

'Mom She will be fine. We will be here tomorrow morning.'

He convinced her and they left together. She wasn't ready to eat anything when they got home but William was able to get her to eat telling her that Grand ma won't be happy with her. He took her to her room to have her rest. He went back to the hospital to stay with Shantel. He had it in mind to return to the house in the evening so as not to get his mom worried. All his work related devices were at his apartment. While at the hospital, he received a message saying

'I am back in the country'.
