When Two Worlds Collide

Chapter four

A/N: In the former chapter I was using both Grand ma and Ma to represent Shantel. In the following chapters it will be the same but I will not be using Grand ma. I will use Shantel in the narrative tone and Ma whenever Matilda or William is speaking. Thank you 🤗💗.

Shantel has been discharged from the hospital. Matilda has also made it her priority to look after her. And William is staying with them. He has transferred Shantel room to the ground level so as to reduce the stairs she climb up and down every day.

Another week has begun and he has not resumed back to work. And he was sulking secretly because he has not seen Jasmine for a long time. The interview is going to take place today but he will not be able to make it there so he sent his best friend, Ryan who just got back from abroad the week before.

NOTE: The person who was back in the last chapter was Ryan.

'Ghrr ghrr' the alarm sounded waking Jasmine up. She had set the alarm clock to an earlier time so that she could wake up early. She got up from the bed said her morning prayer before moving to the bathroom to take her bath. After done with that, she made breakfast of fried egg and slices of bread alongside honey whipped tea. She took a two day off at the cafe the week before. She was lucky to find a cab as soon as she got to the junction. She paid the transport fare and entered with the hope of getting the job.

When she got in, she was lost and decided to ask for directions from the receptionist since the company building was large.

'Good morning ma'am' she greeted politely but got no response. Jasmine felt that she heard but didn't answer. She did not mind at all and asked her where the applicants are to converge. Still she got no response. Also at that same period, an European lady came to meet her for directions and she answered politely with smile plastered on her face. She was flustered with embarrassment but there was nothing she could have done. She followed the lady silently not wanting to attract attention to herself. She stood at a corner in the elevator and got out when the lady did. They got to the hall and met other applicants already sitting, some were eager and some were nervous just like Jasmine. After some time they were called in one after the other. Before it got to Jasmine turn, a young lady came to her side.

'Sorry is this seat taken? ' she asked

'Errm, no' 'ok'

She sat down panting heavily showing she came late and ran her way up there.

'Hi I'm Tiffany Jones. And you are? '

'I'm Afolabi Jasmine'

'Which department are you applying for cause I'm applying for the marketing department'

'Oh that's great. I'm here for the Accounting department'

'I wish I could get this job. Oh my God cause I have a lot of bills to pay ...' Tiffany paused when she noticed Jasmine looking at her awkwardly. Jasmine had taken her to be the talkative one.

'Oh sorry I'm talking too much again' Tiffany apologized

'No it's fine. Just that it's surprising seeing someone talking to me freely'

'And why if I may ask? '

'Is it not obvious? My skin color and nationality.'

'So because you think you are different you don't expect people to ...'

'NEXT'

'Sorry I'm going in now' Jasmine said taking in her hand bag and the folder she brought with

'Ok best of luck' Tiffany whispered which was only clear for Jasmine hearing. She turned to her and smiled acknowledging that she heard her.

She was nervous as hell but she braced up not wanting to be looked down upon by the interviewers.

She was gestured to sit in a chair placed before six individuals and an empty seat in the middle.

'Good morning sir and ma' She greeted slightly bowing her head.

They all ignored her greeting except for a woman who looked to be in her late forties.

'And you are? '

'Oh sorry' she mumbled 'Afolabi Jasmine Temidire'

They went ahead to ask her some questions relating to accounting concept and commerce which she answered gracefully and effortlessly. They contemplated on giving her the job because she was brilliant but they had the concept of her skin colour and nationality ravaging in their mind. Then Ivan entered the room to whisper something into the ears of one of them.

'Boss said she and the next person should be hired' he said and left. They were all puzzled with this information. William never have a hand in any interview that goes on in the company but him acknowledging the employment of someone was surprising. They directed her to the Human Resources department after they were informed. They did not want to face the wrath of their boss so they had to do it quickly. Jasmine was happy she got the job but she knew employment letters were given days even weeks after the interview. She didn't think much about it and did as she was instructed. She got the letter after different processing. She got the position of Cost ang General Accountant. She went home over joyous with this new development.

Meanwhile in William's office,

'So this is the girl. He is so whipped' Ryan thought to himself.

William had told him to make sure that she was employed. Ryan was passing through the area delegated for the interview when he saw her and someone talking. When she got in as it was her turn. The lady turned to sit well and Ryan was able to see her properly. He was immediately captivated by her beauty that he was stuck at the spot. He called Ivan who was passing by and told him to inform the interviewers to hire Jasmine and the lady she was speaking to. Ryan has his company at Oslo in Norway. He and William were best of friends from childhood but they had to part ways when Ryan father decided to change environment and for family issues by moving from London to Oslo. It was hard for them but they later got back on their feet. Ryan now manages the confectionary making company established by his mom and dad. He visits London on yearly basis but he wants to take a break from work and arrived in London the week before which was when Shantel fell ill. Ryan has been to William's company since he was asked by William to manage it pending the time he is not around.

Tiffany also got the position of Product Marketing Manager due to her excellent approach to questions and her enthusiastic behavior towards people. Her employment letter was also given to her that same day. They were to resume work the following week giving them the grace of the remaining days of the week to prepare.
