IGE,THE STUBBORN BOY

ALAKE AND LAMIDI

The story my grandmother told me goes like this 

Many years ago,in the land of ketu,there lived a couple called Alake and lamidi. Lamidi was the husband of Alake.They loved each other so much.

When they were courting each other, many young ladies were jealous of lamidi's love for A lake.And almost all the villagers knew they were eventually going to get married.

The whole of ketu land stood still the day lamidi took Alake as his wife. It was a very big ceremony.Not that the parents of the couple were rich but they were people who believed in doing things well

Alake's parents were particularly happy because when the night came,lamidi met their daughter at homr .There was enough to eat and drink till the following.

Some months later,Alake got pregnant and had her first child.

It was a girl and the couple named her Olamide. Since it was there first child,the couple threw a big party to celebrate her birth.

Three years laterAlake got pregnant again.Lamidi was very happy and expectant.He prayed that his wife would have a baby boy this time.But unfortunately Alake had a bay girl again.Lamidi did not celebrate the birth of kemisola so much.He did not even invite too many people to the party. The elders simply named the baby while he gave food to the few people who attended the naming ceremony.

Lamidi was not a happy man after the birth of kemisola.

Not that he did not like his female children but he wanted a male child.He had become an object of ridicule among his friends. They had named him "Baba obinrin" which means father of girls
