Tess's Point of View I swam back down to the bubble and began sorting everyone. Women to the right, men to the left, young to the front, and old to the back. 'How should I do this?' I asked my wolf. 'Remember what mother taught us about are siren powers,' She said. I laid down on the ground, closed my eyes, and thought about my mother. All I could think about was the walks in the woods we use to take and her telling me about my father. The type of wolf I would become and how she prayed I would have a mate, but I could not think about anything she taught me as a siren. So I just laid there with my eyes closed. "Tess, wake up," My mother said as she shook me awake. I carefully opened my eyes and looked at her. "Too early." "Tess get up. You have class soon," She said as she pulled the blanket off of me allowing the warmth to leave and the cold to hit my body. I groaned and sat up. "Why must we do these classes?" I asked as I wiped the sleep from my eyes. "Because one day you will need how to take care of yourself and if you don't have basic knowledge then you will never make it in this world." I got up out of bed and walked over to my dresser. I grabbed a pair of black leggings and a sweater. I walked into the attached bathroom and got ready for my day. As I walked into the dining room the other girls were already there eating breakfast. They use to say there were hundreds of us and we use to rule the sea and now there were hardly any of us left. Four students and that was it. I sat down next to Cori and began filling my plate with food. As I ate Elder Cathy walked in. I wouldn't consider her an elder because she was in her forties but she was the oldest adult here. "Good morning class. Today's lesson will be different than any other we have had. Two of you will become of age and need to know what it means to be a siren." Several of the girls began to whisper but I just rolled my eyes. Why did we need to learn this if we couldn't be who we truly are? "As you all know we no longer go into the water or sing. We do this so the hunters can't find us but you will have the urge to do this. Don't." "My mom said we have the power to kill them. Why don't we?" Lizzy said. "Good question Liz. We don't because the hunters use earplugs to stop from hearing our songs and if we go into the water they can trap us, drain the lake, put poison in the lake and the list goes on. It is safer this way." "Oh," Several of the girls said at once. "Then why teach us?" I asked. "Because one day we will be free and even though it might not be in my lifetime or yours the knowledge needs to be passed down." I looked at the elder and nodded my head. Elder Cathy began to talk and I just tuned her out. I didn't need to know this stuff. "Tess," I heard elder Cathy say. I looked up at her and said, "Yes." "Are you listening?" "Kinda." "Pay attention." I looked at her and then she started talking. "As I was saying when we sing our song allows our victims to see what makes them happy and their dreams come true. This allows us to bring them to the water and take their souls." "Can we see what they see?" Amanda asked. Elder Cathy smiled and said, "Yes. Before taking their soul look into their eyes and you can see what is in their soul." Right after she said that I shot up out of my sleep and looked around at those under my songs control. 'You have your answer?' My wolf asked. 'I do but first I must sing again so they continue to be under my control.' I began to sing again and when I knew they were still under my control I walked over to the first female and placed my hands on her cheeks. I looked into her eyes and hummed. I was allowing my instincts to take over. I began to see flashes of her life and knew she was a good person. She was only in this fight because of the promise of a pack. I grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the bubble. I would not take her life. It did not take long for us to hit the surface and I pulled her to the shore. "Hello," I yelled and soon a man walked towards me. "Everything okay?" He asked as he walked up. "I would like to talk to Alpha Rick." I watched as the man's eyes glazed over. "He is on his way." The young man looked at the girl and said, "What is wrong with her?" "She is under my spell." "And what does that spell do to them?" "It allows them to see what they want. Right now she is happy." "That is good." We stood in silence until Rick and Ben showed up. "Everything okay?" Rick asked as he walked up. I smiled and said, "Yes. Her name is Tiffany and she is a good person. She only joined this fight because she was promised a home." "Do you know why she was a rogue?" Ben asked. I shook my head and said, "I can find out." "Please do," Ben said. I looked into her eyes and began to look for why she was a rogue. When I had my answer I pulled away and said, "Her pack got a new alpha and the alpha wanted her as a mate. She was fifteen and decided to run. She has been on the run ever since." The three men looked at each other and Rick smiled. "Then she can join the pack." I looked at her again and released my hold on her. She looked around and fell to the ground while holding her chest. "You okay?" Rick asked the girl and she looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "Ya, but did we win or lose?" "You lost but I have an offer for you." "And what is that?" She asked. "If you can tell me everything you know about Kane you can join my pack." She nodded and he helped her off the ground. "Good work Tess. Keep it up," And he walked away.
