Chapter 10 The Princess’s Lesson    Lorna is about 6 inches into her monster alchemy book, with its intricate drawings and recipes she was fascinated, and it was hard to put the book down to her amazement. Each chapter was a new spell or incantation to master. She nearly blew up the lab trying to make cider from water and an apple seed. Smoke had filled the lab and hallway that Elfane peered into the lab to check on her "Your Majesty are you OK?" Laughing "Yes Elfane, my cider packed quite a punch" Lorna giggles more.   "Please watch how much seed dust you add to the flames that could blow a wall up!" He warns and then waves to clear the smoke a bit more "Maybe a walk in the gardens to identify herbs and Solaris Herbs will do you good" he pushes Lorna out of the lab to get some fresh air.   Giggling out the door Lorna strolls to the garden to get some fresh air, the sun shining on her in a rich orange yellow glow in the morning, it being more orange than that of Earth's sun. The sun gave the High elves the shimmer to their skin and "tanned" their faces and made the markings around their eyes form. Lorna felt around her eyes and the swirl was actually changing shape on her face. It seemed to be forming a flower shape around her eyes with a star shaped petal the swirls also still distinctive giving her eyes a kaleidoscope pattern around them. She wondered if it would keep changing more as she walked through the garden and tried to identify all the plants growing in the garden beds and collecting some to try some more portions and spells with. Elfane was a patient teacher with her, he taught her basics similar to cooking recipes and made syrups to use to mix more complex recipes. She learned to make light from gratings of gemstones - each light had a use to set a mood or to create more recipes and spells. Elfane showed her concentration potions, and telepathic enhancer portions and dream potions, so she could try to develop those skills. He taught her how to make explosive potions and that that would terminate demons and dragons, and all other sorts of mystical creatures from the sea and to the land and air.   Lorna excelled at her lessons and absorbed all Elfane taught her. She was learning an invisibility potion and had fun wandering the castle and observing her surroundings. Her alchemy skills grew in leaps and bounds and she was able to make many of the complicated potions and was now close to graduating to master level alchemy.   Lorna was learning portal magic as well, through her many textbooks and tomes from her parents. Her parents also made magic images similar to movies using parts of their memories and crystals and potions. She was amazed that she met her parents and all her elven family through these mystic images they all created. Several were interactive and made her feel like they were right there with her.  Since she was the only one able to open portals, she had to rely on the tomes and books left behind as well as the mystic crystals. Elfane was familiar with some and able to help guide her but learning this was extremely difficult with no one to actually explain how to access the magic in her at the start. She practiced only on getting to open a portal but was warned to never take them since she would not know where she would end up without further training. She learns that she needed to clear her mind and focus her chi - magic energy inside her, it was still hard to really focus as her mind was still grieving the loss of Jaimie and her earth family and friends not around to comfort her.  She was still shy around the elves, but did meet a fellow high elf fire mage, Sorsha, and her twin Sypha who could control ice and fire. They were studying alchemy together with the princess, as both Sorsha and Sypha were distant cousins to Lorna. Lorna learned some fire spells and was getting adept using them for offensive and defensive magic.   As the days and months passed her coronation was drawing near. The portal magic was improving at a slow rate, but she could portal around the castle inside and to the garden well with no mistakes on where she ended up. She was able to create portals for others inside the castle and several people were surprised to suddenly see "new" arrivals occasionally.   "Elfane I need to go explore the kingdom more to try to portal to other places since I haven't really left the castle yet." Lorna practicing a portal opening to the castle garden explains, "I need to see more places to try to make a portal to."  She makes a new portal to the kitchens, and then makes one to her study, and one to the lab. Elfane thinks about what she says, “We could do a tour of the city, but we need to be able to protect you, and Hiroline has not shown his cards yet and we do not know what he is up to.” Lorna sighs, “I don’t understand why he has not made any action either.” It is weird having to look over my shoulder all the time thinking about him lurking or plotting to kill me” “We need to stay alert, that is when he attacked last time when we let our guard down, he is very dangerous, and we cannot lose you.” Elfane looks serious at Lorna and contemplates what to do and what needs to be in place with the princess going on a city tour. “The city is huge, too many things can happen in the city. Lots of unknows and the amount of people in the city is another problem.” “I know but I need to get out of this castle!” Lorna feeling frustrated “I have the twins that can go with me! We would be able to prevent anyone trying to get or take me we can light them on fire!” “Possibly, but they can still harm or kill you even if you all light them on fire. Let me make a plan for your tour and set up safety parameters for it and get the guards prepared for three young ladies out and about.” He shakes his head this is going to be most difficult with those headstrong twins going with her to get her into trouble. They were powerful though so that should be difficult to kidnap any of them. “I think a few days more and we can let you go on a brief trip out under guard of course your majesty.” Ugh, Lorna sighs loudly “Fine, I understand the dangers and we will all be careful I promise!”.  ̶
