Chapter 10

Miracle Every day, I reminded myself of what Riva had told me: that there was no hope for me with Alpha Theron, and that admiring him would bring me no good. I had tried, put in every effort to quell my admiration, but feelings were not so easily controlled. My mind may listen, but my heart had its own inclinations. No matter how much I considered all the negatives, the disadvantages, and our differences, my heart simply refused to conform. I had no other choice but to continue admiring, endure the pain of this unrequited love, become a martyr, and suffer until my heart had no option but to relinquish its attachment. I guess to admire someone is to endure suffering, to experience sadness, and to feel unconditionally without expecting anything in return. "Of all times, why did that devil come to our region? Instead of celebrating the ceremony tonight, we're left here in dread!" Lydia complained. There were rumors about a rogue named Mago arriving in the region. They said he was evil and had harmed many she-wolves ages ago. On the other hand, I had never heard of that name before, and my mother had never mentioned it. If he was a rogue, I should have known of him since I sometimes overheard my mother and her mate discussing rogues. "I think it's a sign. Perhaps it's not the right time for Alpha Theron to claim another she-wolf," Riva remarked, glancing at me. I know what she's implying. I cleared my throat and averted my gaze somewhere. It seemed like problems often surfaced just when there was something to celebrate. Perhaps that's how fate worked, or maybe fate had an aversion to happiness. "Rogues are indeed a headache. I've always wondered why the Elders haven't made more of an effort to eliminate their existence," Lydia voiced her thoughts again, disregarding what Riva had mentioned earlier. Speaking of rogues, I couldn't help but think that if Alpha Theron hadn't shown me sympathy and given me a chance to join his pack, I might have become a rogue as well. And if I had turned into one, would I have survived, or would I have met my end long ago? "The region is vast, Lydia. I'm quite certain Mago won't come here. He visited the region a decade ago but never came to this part," Riva joined the conversation. "We should never become complacent, Riva. We never know what they're planning," Lydia cautioned, serving as a reminder. I couldn't fully understand their conversation. Yet, for some reason, perhaps out of curiosity, I wanted to meet this man they were talking about. They held great fear of him, and the fact that Alpha Theron had elevated security along the borders to a higher level spoke volumes. Mago must truly be a formidable adversary to warrant such heightened concern not only from the omegas but also from the leaders. "Let's place our trust in Alpha Theron to handle this," Riva concluded, ending the discussion. "The three musketeers are gossiping again in broad daylight while they're supposed to be working," Hillary emerged like a mushroom, clapping her hands in a sarcastic manner. Hillary had been absent from the pack for three days and had only just returned today. During those three days, there had been peace, but now that she was back, it was disrupted. If life was all about salt and pepper, or bread and butter, Hillary was like spice and raisins—she had a way of ruining everything. "We've completed our task, Hillary, in case that's troubling you," I blurted out my thoughts, too late to restrain them. Riva and Lydia swiftly pinched my waist, and I couldn't help but bite my lip. They were well aware of how utterly annoying Hillary could be, and they didn't want me to engage in any of her taunts, but sometimes it became too much. Hillary scrunched her nose with furrowed brows. "Oh, the princess now has the audacity to talk back. Remember, you're nothing more than a rogue turned omega. Know your place," she flung her sling bag in my direction, and, due to a stroke of unfortunate luck, it landed right on my face. I saw stars for a couple of minutes, seriously impacted by the force of the blow. To make matters worse, her sling bag had metal embellishments, and the strap was made of hard materials, likely responsible for the direct hit to my eyes. "Oh my goodness, your nose is bleeding!" Riva exclaimed in panic. I kept my eyes closed as all I could see was darkness, while Riva tended to my nose. "What's happening here?" A voice like thunder echoed in my ears. It was so familiar that even with my eyes closed, I knew to whom it belonged. "Hillary threw her bag at Miracle, Alpha Theron. Her nose is bleeding," I heard Lydia report. "Hillary! You've only just arrived, and you're already bullying the omegas again?" Alpha Theron scolded, his voice as cold as winter. I slowly opened my eyes and immediately noticed the stern-looking man in front of me. His focus was on Hillary, who appeared like a frightened cat in his presence.I had never seen Alpha Theron this furious, and somehow, he appeared even more attractive. I think I'm going crazy. "Well, I found them gossiping, and when I spoke, Miracle talked back. She doesn't have the right to do that!" she tried to justify herself. Hearing her response only confirmed what Riva had told me a few days ago about status. It seemed that only the leaders had the right to speak in this pack, and if you were an omega, you had no choice but to follow and obey. It felt unfair. "Seriously, Hil? Are you that petty? Follow me to the office; we'll talk there!" Alpha Theron commanded, giving me a brief glance before walking away. "You shouldn't have talked back, Mira. You know how annoying Hillary is. The more you engage with her, the more she'll bully us," Lydia scolded me after Hillary and Alpha Theron fade in our sight. "I'm sorry. It was supposed to be a thought in my head only; I didn't realize I'd said it out loud." "Next time, try to turn a deaf ear or a blind eye. Pretend she's not there," Riva advised. I nodded. As night fell, the hailing ceremony for Alpha Theron's Luna took place, and all of us were gathered in the pack's main hall. Personally, I didn't want to attend. I'd rather stay in our chamber and nurse my pain than witness it firsthand. "Are you okay?" Riva asked me. We were seated at the back, while the important figures sat in the front. Alpha Theron's parents and Lisa's parents were already in the front, but both Lisa and Alpha Theron were missing. I wondered where they were. "I'm okay, Riva. Don't worry about me," I lied. I want to go out. The host took the stage, and the ceremony began. A red carpet was rolled down the aisle, and when the doors opened, a spotlight illuminated the entrance where both Lisa and Alpha Theron began their march. Her hand was on his arm, and watching them made me incredibly uncomfortable. "How long will the ceremony be?" I asked Riva, attempting to divert my attention from the scene. "It will last until dawn. We will run through the woods and celebrate before ending the ceremony," she replied. Witnessing their vow exchange would likely be torturous for me. I took a quick glance at Alpha Theron as he stood on the stage with his soon-to-be Luna, and for a brief moment, our eyes met. I saw a hint of apology in his gaze. And like a sudden spark of light, my heart shattered into pieces as they made their blood pact. My wolf emerged, and a distinct fragrance filled my senses. It was a blend of morning dew and coffee, an unusual scent I had never encountered before. What was happening? My emotions suddenly became overwhelming – confusion, happiness, and, above all, anger. But before I could make sense of everything, my wolf's claim halted my world from spinning, and just before Alpha Theron could claim Lisa, I ran away.
