CHAPTER 002
Jonas’s POV
I don’t lose. Not in business. Not in marriage. Not in power. Sofie believes she can leave without any consequences? She demonstrates complete ignorance by believing she can leave. She remains unaware of the true nature of the challenge she faces.
The door slammed behind her as she left the penthouse, but I remained completely unbothered. She had previously displayed similar behavior before. It wouldn’t be the last. I took a deep drink from my glass before settling into the couch. The sound of her high heel shoes tapping along the hallway both reached my ears and did not make me concerned. She didn’t understand yet. She failed to understand that I controlled every aspect of our situation.
I gently tapped my glass while smiling to myself. She wanted a divorce? Let her try. She was naïve. She had no understanding of the situation she faced.
I immediately reached for my phone to call my lawyer. This situation required no further attention from me. I decided to stop her from succeeding in her plan.
The phone needed three rings before he answered the call.
His voice remained as composed as ever when he said, "Jonas." "What’s the situation?"
I requested Sofie's bank accounts to be frozen as I sat back on the couch. "She thinks she’s leaving. My team has orders to preserve her assets so she will deeply regret leaving me.
A pause. The lawyer's mental process seemed audible to me as he analyzed the situation. He was good at his job. His expertise demanded a generous compensation, which I provided.
He finally spoke his agreement to handle the situation. “Anything else?”
I turned my gaze toward the city below as I answered "Yes" to the lawyer. "Spread some rumors. Make her look unstable. The rumors should paint her as a greedy woman who committed infidelity. Your plan will permanently damage her public image.
“Understood. It’ll be done by tomorrow.”
Good. Perfect.
The call ended with me maintaining that composed smile across my face. Sofie believed she could abandon all the things I had created for her. Well, she was wrong. I made sure she wouldn't be able to carry away any of her possessions. Not a penny. Not a single possession.
The next morning, the first wave of damage hit. The notification on my phone confirmed that her bank accounts were frozen according to my instructions. A quiet chuckle escaped me as I thought about the situation. She believed she could depart without taking anything? She would never succeed at taking away what I worked for.
Her reputation would completely crumble down by the end of the week. I strategically distributed the initial batch of rumors to individuals who would spread them effectively. The elite members of society trusted my words because I had their complete confidence. The public would view her as a mentally unstable woman who sought my wealth. The attention she once received would vanish completely.
When you occupy the top position, you gain complete control over every situation. People will accept any information you present to them. I took control of the situation exactly as I had planned. The lies I spread allowed me to gain everyone's support as I continued spreading false information.
Sofie attempted to defend herself, yet she found herself too late in the situation. She entered my office space in a state of both fury and desperation to get answers. She entered the situation without any idea of what awaited her.
Her loud office entrance produced the sharp clicking sounds of her heels, which seemed to mark the beginning of the end for someone. Her face glowed red from anger while her eyes showed intense betrayal. She thought I would care. She thought I’d be afraid.
She entered the room without waiting for permission to enter. Jonas, you need to explain what is happening right now. She spoke through trembling rage as she demanded an explanation. You believe you can destroy my life without facing consequences.
I looked at her without any concern. Your life remains untouched by me, Sofie. You will understand who holds the true power.
Her eyes widened with disbelief. She attempted to approach me, but I remained motionless. She was a child in this game.
"You want a divorce?" My words came out in a quiet and icy tone. I walked to the window after passing her without stopping. “You’ll leave with nothing. No money. No home. No future.”
Her body shook while she stood there taking short, rapid breaths. She had never experienced the sensation of being powerless in this manner before. She believed she maintained control through her financial resources and expensive possessions and luxurious home. But all of it was mine. I made it all happen.
Her face lost color as she blinked. She retreated while her eyes displayed both confusion and fear. This was good. That’s what I wanted.
I moved nearer to her while speaking in a threatening tone. Running to anyone for assistance is completely out of the question. I own this city, Sofie. You? You own nothing.”
She tried to speak, but her words became trapped in her throat. She remained silent because she had no response. She was lost.
I could see her mind racing. She must have believed she could find shelter with someone because she was looking for a place to go. But no. I had eyes everywhere. No one would help her. Not now.
She retreated another step but did it at a slower pace. She uttered those words without any genuine force. She was scared. I could see it in her eyes. She had nowhere to go. Nothing to hold on to.
My voice grew harsh as I declared, "I have the right to do this." “You’re nothing without me.”
She tried to leave, but I had more to say before she could escape.
I kept my eyes on her as she walked away while reaching for my phone, which rested on the desk. I watched her leave the office as I dialed the phone number. The door shut behind her as I smiled to myself. She would not escape my grasp this time.
I spoke into the phone with a steady voice that seemed relaxed. The person I spoke to needed to ensure my ex-wife did not settle comfortably in her new location.
The phone connection ended without my concern. I didn't require any explanation for my actions. The message was clear. Sofie was mine. She would never escape.
What would she do now? Can she survive without the life I provided? Will she attempt to return after her departure? I didn’t think so.
I was eager to witness her upcoming moves.
