CHAPTER 005
Elias’s POV
I don’t lose people I claim. And Sofie Lauritzen? She’s mine now.
I have witnessed this pattern before—people who believe they can escape and those who believe they possess freedom. My protection extends to everyone I watch over, so there is no way out. Not for anyone. And Sofie? She will discover this truth through painful experience.
I told her she had no choice. She didn’t listen. I didn't care about her lack of trust because I didn't expect it from her. Trust is a concept I never anticipate receiving from anyone, particularly someone in her position.
I never let important matters slip away from me. I accept people into my care with the understanding that they will stay with me forever. To ensure Sofie stayed in the house, I appointed my trusted enforcer Nikolaj as her guard. She will never escape from this house. Not without going through him.
The initial days followed a standard pattern. She remained motionless in that room like a spirit while rejecting food. Her refusal to submit was both brave and useless.
She refused to accept the reality of her situation. And that’s fine. I wasn’t expecting her to. She failed to grasp the fact that her situation remained unchanged.
I observe her from hidden positions in the hallways while standing near door windows to see her through the glass. She remains unaware of my presence while I choose to stay hidden. I observe her actions because I want to understand her behavior during moments when she believes she remains unnoticed.
At first, it was simple. She paced back and forth while making her fists into tight balls as if physical tension could alter her situation. She spent her time at the window gazing at the outside world, which remained forever out of her grasp. She would scan the horizon for something unattainable, which she desired most—freedom.
The fight in her was raw. I could feel it. Her strength left a deep impression on me. But it was still naïve. She remained unaware of the extent to which Jonas controlled everything. She believed she could escape, but her situation proved otherwise. Not anymore.
I stand against weakness, yet I refuse to harm someone because I possess the power to do so. I’m patient. I watch. I wait.
The moment finds me when she stands completely isolated in an empty space. Then, I walk in.
She sits on the edge of the bed with her back straight and her eyes focused on the floor. She ignores me when I enter the room, so I stand motionless while observing her.
“Not eating again?” My voice remains low, but the silence allows my words to travel across the room.
She reacts to my presence but refuses to lift her gaze. “I’m not hungry.”
I approach Sofie while moving in a circular motion like a predator until I stand right in front of her. I want to determine my limits. The truth remains clear between us both even though you try to deny it.
She remains silent, which deepens the weight of the atmosphere. The atmosphere feels heavy and continues to grow denser. She’s not going to break. Not yet. But she will.
I speak gently yet firmly to her as I say, "You should consider making this process simpler." I can provide you with a comfortable life in this place. Simply listening to me will make your life comfortable.
She moves her head in a small motion, yet she maintains her gaze away from me. “I won’t listen to you.”
My face moves near hers so she can sense my breath touching her flesh. Sofie, you lack the power to make demands at this moment. Your current situation denies you any freedom to choose.
She finally looks at me as she turns her face. Her eyes burn with determination, and her expression shows her determination. It’s a challenge. She believes she possesses the endurance to survive longer than I do.
Elias becomes her target as she unleashes her hatred through the words "You're nothing but a cage." “You’re just like them.”
I don’t flinch. Her words don’t matter. The walls I constructed protect me from their ability to penetrate. Do you believe I am your biggest problem? A smirk appears on my lips as I ask her this question. Sofie, you have me as your only barrier between you and the path to hell.
She hesitates. Just for a second. The emotion is visible on her face, and I recognize its presence. My words create a heavy burden that she must carry.
My voice becomes a deep whisper as I step right in front of her. “You want to leave?” I whisper as I stalk around her in a predatory manner. “Then go ahead. Walk out that door. You will survive for no more than five minutes before Jonas discovers your location.
A deep breath escapes her as she shows her first sign of fear since I brought her here.
"You think you can escape his pursuit?" My voice carries a mix of mockery and chilling reality as I speak to her. A man like him cannot be hidden from. The things you have witnessed demonstrate his true capabilities. I am your only defense against danger. Whether you like it or not.”
Her breathing becomes rapid as she makes tight fists while her chest heaves with each breath. Her eyes reveal an ongoing battle between herself and her situation. A part of her desires to battle me while she screams and attempts to escape from this place. She understands her situation because she knows she cannot escape.
She speaks through a breaking voice as she declares, "You serve as a temporary connection." “You don’t control me.”
I can see it. She’s trying to believe it. She clings to the smallest possibility of escape. But it’s pointless. She belongs to me regardless of her denial.
The words I speak to Sofie are more threatening than any direct threat when I say, "I don't need to control you." “You belong to me now.”
Her gaze stays fixed on me as she stands motionless. A brief instant passes where I think she might lose control, but she turns her face away while her body droops under the burden of her internal struggle.
The heavy silence creates a suffocating atmosphere between us. I stare at her one more time with a penetrating look before exiting the room.
I plan to destroy her through gradual destruction instead of immediate destruction. Not yet.
But I will.
The moment I finish my work, she will discover there is no more reason to hold onto anything.
I listen to the door lock engage as I walk away.
She’s not leaving. Not now. Not ever.
I feel certain she comprehends this truth inside her core.
She isn’t free.
She never will be.
