CHAPTER 006

CHAPTER 006 Sofie’s POV I refuse to give in to anyone. Not to anyone. And definitely not to someone like Elias Mikkelsen. The number of walls he built around me and guards he assigned to monitor me does not matter to me. I’m not going to be trapped. I can’t be. I won’t let him break me. The mansion is big. Too big. Every space in this mansion creates a labyrinth effect. Each step and each breath I take creates a feeling of being completely engulfed by this environment. Elias wants me to believe I have no escape from this place. He’s always watching. Always. But tonight... tonight is different. I refuse to stay passive while pretending everything is fine. I refuse to let him believe he achieved victory. When all sounds die down, I emerge from my bed to take advantage of the guards' momentary safety. My shallow breathing and pounding heart lead me to escape from my bed. The darkness stands as my sole support during this time. My movements through the darkness are swift and noiseless as a shadow. The house remains completely silent while I move through the hallway without making any noise. The chill of the night air touches my skin without stopping my progress. I’m focused. I know what I need to do. I navigate through the guards to reach the back entrance. I force myself to move despite my trembling hands. The door makes a loud creak when I open it, yet I pay no attention. I can’t stop now. The fresh night breeze hits my face as I step outside while my breathing accelerates from the smell of liberation. Beyond the tree line stands the gate, which leads to freedom. I will escape when I reach that point. I’ll disappear. The world will never discover my location. I run. The ground feels soft under my feet as I navigate through unfamiliar dark woods without any hesitation. I just keep running. My heart is pounding, the sound deafening in my ears. Each breath feels like my final one, yet I keep moving forward while panic builds inside my chest. I can’t let myself stop. Not now. I can see the gates ahead. They’re just within reach. I’m almost there. When I become aware of tires moving across gravel, I stop in my tracks. A car. My stomach drops. My speed decreases slightly as I continue running forward. I know it’s too late. I glance behind me to see him standing there. Elias. He stands by his vehicle with his arms folded across his chest as if he has been waiting for me to arrive. His expression showed he had expected me to attempt an escape. "Tsk. Your actions let me down, Sofie," he states with a mocking tone that suggests he expected this outcome. Just disappointed. I stop. My body refuses to move anymore while my mind spins through one hundred different thoughts. How did he know? How did he get here so fast? He approaches me after pushing away from the car while his eyes remain cold and his expression reveals calculation. My breathing becomes heavy as the fury within me intensifies. I won’t let him win. He will never succeed in taking away everything I possess. I speak with a trembling voice as I demand, "Let me go." “I’m not going back there.” His massive figure halts right in front of me while he stands there dominating the space. Sofie, you cannot establish your own rules here. His words emerge from his mouth with a deep final tone that leaves no space for disagreement. “You’re under my protection. That means you don’t run. You don’t fight. You will absolutely follow my orders. Right now I am shaking because of my fury rather than fear. He doesn’t get to control me. He can’t. I let the words escape my mistreated voice as though they were thunder, but my body probably quivered while standing under his menacing sway. His face moves nearer until his hot breath touches my skin. “I do now,” he murmurs. “You belong to me.” The words strike me like a physical blow, and my stomach tightens. He can’t say that. He can’t make me believe it. I won’t let him. He tightens his bruising grip on my arm to drag me toward the mansion after I attempt to break free. The fight against his grip produces no results. He’s too strong. “Let go of me!” My screams fail to register any reaction from him. He doesn’t react at all. He asks with a threatening tone, "Do you think you can resist me?" Do you think you can simply leave this place and start living? You’re mine now, Sofie. You will discover the true meaning of what he has in store for you. I don’t say anything. I can’t. The rapid pounding of my heart accompanies a state of mental disarray and fury that grips me tightly. How did I end up here? How did I allow him to capture me in this situation? He forces me back into the mansion while I desperately try to escape, but I understand there's no point in resisting. He has me. He possesses everything I refuse to surrender to him. I hate him for it. He leads me through the corridors with his hand firmly gripping my arm as he brings me back to the room where he has confined me. A constant, oppressive feeling from his control envelops me while I move through every room. Another attempt to break free proves useless. He pushes me into the room after opening its door violently. His voice deepens as he orders me to stay in place. “You don’t leave. Not without me.” His hard shove pushes the door closed before a loud echo disturbs the surrounding silence. The sound of the lock clicking into place tells me I am once again confined to this space. I can’t breathe. I can’t think. Elias stands as the only person who possesses the key to my self-made prison. I hit the floor as my entire body convulses because my thoughts rapidly dance with all the things I have attempted to push away from my mind. How did I get here? How do I get out? Why does it seem like I will never break free from this situation?
