Eleven: Ren decided to let me off the hook until we met up tonight to set up our wire and recording equipment. We were going off-script with the locals, so the Hidden council were sending one of their powerful expressionists out to back us up in the field. After a long bath and a fast step into my hot-air dryer enchantment, I was fluffy and silken, ready to figure out what was the right look for tonight. I felt like black was passe for a goth lily look, so I opted for deep purple leather pants, and a local metal band tee-shirt from a gig I had been at. In fact, I took it off the back of the lead guitarist when I was tumbling in his sheets that night. A very delectable snack! I opted for my grey trench coat since I felt leather-on-leather was just too try-hard. A girl must have her standards. Mine was at being classy in all things, including my dark gothic scenes. This was a sub-culture plagued with cliches and posers, so much so that it was almost unrecognizable to the outside world in its true form. While I was indeed looking for some dark expressionist in their midst, it never occurred to me that the whole place should be treated with hostility. Not unless every single person there was connected to Sara’s death. Besides, it was basically every Wednesday thing for me to hit a gothic bar or club, so a girl must keep up her image! I went with smokey grey eye shadow and a similar color lipstick. It all matched my coat nicely as well. My shoes were black leather boots. I chose them for a mixture of comfort and practicality. They would have great traction, should I end up chasing or running from something. Ren knocked on my door just before Six-PM. He looked worried, and flustered, which did not make sense until I saw who he was with. Her eyes were searing me to the floor as she stepped to my door and waited for me to invite them inside. I waved them in, and I walked over to the front door and held it open for them. “Hello, again. Did you leave something on me last night?” I asked her in a joking tone, and her eyes swam with levity as Ren looked between us, and he realized what I was referring to as happening last night. He seemed shocked, almost stupidly shocked at this. His look would have been more comical, if not for the next words out of his mouth. “She is young Grand Magus, and as such, is prone to smart-ass comments. You will have to forgive her.” Ren said to the magus girl, with an extraordinarily strong and pronounced degree of difference. I looked at her. “Grand Magus?” I asked, and her lips pulled up into a tight smile as she eyed me, licking her lips subtly. “I am Grendel, and yes, I am the ruler of the Magi. The Grand Magus, however, I prefer people to address me as Grendel. I find the pomp and simpering exhausting.” My jaw twitched in amusement at this, and I said, “Well, no danger of getting too much kiss ass dialogue out of me, Grand Magus.” I said in a cheeky tone, and she snorted as she glided forward and stopped just ahead of me. She surveyed my outfit with a great and analyzing look. “Is this what yer wearing, Dove?” She asked, and I nodded and felt my gut tighten in response to her heady feminine tone. She was powerful, one of the most mind-blowing chi feeding experiences of my life. And her body had been so carnally enjoyable that I kept thinking of her throughout the day. “Yes, I’m going for gothic, not posser shtick.” She nodded in approval. “Indeed, dear, so many nancies out there to make the entire movement appear as wankers. Toss the daft lot of them!” She said and I sniggered, and we shared a look, heated, almost to the point of pain. I felt almost like I might need to ally lotion to my skin before I left for the club tonight. “So, what brings the grand magus to my door?” I asked, cutting through seven layers of crap. She seemed to study me for a long moment, almost like she had not expected me to cut the talk short. Grendel seemed to be accustomed to people bowing and scraping before her. She did not appear flattered by this fact, just that it was her norm. “Spencer, you don’t seem to understand, she is the Grand Magus. You must treat her with the dignity and respect due to her station! She has ruled her people for over forty-thousand-years!” Ren said, and Grendel spared him an annoyed look, more so that he gave away her age-range, more than anything else. I guess anyone that old, does not like their age brought up in conversation frequently. I managed not to fully blanch at her rough estimated age. I could only think back to how tight her entry was, how small, perfect, and delectable. I shivered at the memory of her s*x and how I conquered it last night. Her smokey eyes told me she remembered well what happened between us. I had not given her even enough time to tell me her name before I pinned her to the back wall and had my way with her. She seemed very much appreciative of that. Now I could guess why that was. No one likely ever tossed the Grand Magus back and proceeded to pummel her in all the most pleasurable ways a woman can. “I am fairly certain Grendel knows I am not going to simper or bow. She does not expect it of me, do you Grendel?” I asked her, my tone no less bold even now knowing who she was. I had been inside her body, so forgive me for knowing that I could talk to her as an equal, besides that, I never much felt below royals. They all feel pretty much equal to me, even if our powers differ in nature. “You are no magus, clearly, so I expect only yourself.” Grendel said honestly, and I stared into her gaze, and Ren seemed to somehow become even more nervous. I was sure that he was going to go off on me when we were alone. He was just wired that way, and well, he was a policeman through and through. “Brilliant, now that we have the social protocols squared, how about we move along to the UC event, yeah?” I asked, and I gave Ren a meaningful look, and he looked on me with mild annoyance. “Fine, we’ll set up your wire and your hidden defensive weapons. You will be entering an unknown den of potentially dangerous and hostile expressionists. We will want you armed, but not enough so that you will be detectable.” Ren said, and Grendel hovered over me, and she opened a case that seemed to appear as if from thin air. I realized she had used a space compression expression on items earlier. She was merely commanding them back to their original size and shape now. “Cool party trick, what else can you hide like that?” I asked her, and she gave me a scathing gaze that said I might just find out. “Expression is always about the application, not the glamorous concepts the youth dream up.” She said, and I bit my lip as not to remind her she had just gotten her rocks off, thanks to a youthful expressionist, last night. Ren seemed to be no less comfortable now than he had been a few minutes ago. It was obvious to him we had screwed, and now he was stuck as our third wheel for the evening. “What do we have here?” She handed me a baton, and said, “A mundane option with expression to reinforce the hardness and material density to make it unbreakable by most standards.” She explained, and I let my lips curve wide into a large O-shape. “The wire, if you will, Grand Magus?” Ren asked, and she smiled a lazy smile and a slim wire, and a sticky tape appeared in her palm. “That’s a lot smaller than the ones I see on cop shows.” I commented casually and Ren cleared his throat and said, “Well, technology is advancing, even in the human world. However, this one is a Hidden design. Made to transmit data even in the most hostile of locations and the expression had encrypted the frequency it uses, and it has several masking expressions overlayed and woven into the wire.” Ren explained, and I spared him a glance and Grendel raised my tee-shirt without asking, which didn’t bother me nearly as much as it bothered Ren. “So, like the CIA meets Star Trek with this wire, so cool!” I commented and Grendel positioned the listening device on my chest, then she weaved power and the device became invisible, more accurate, it was now reflecting light. “Very cool, you have all those very nifty and clever little expressions tucked away just to impress your dates with, huh?” I asked, and she laughed at my blunt honesty with her. She seemed like she was forever expecting everyone to become, well Ren towards her. She was not any less than professional with her wire installation, but she did let her hand brush over my breast several times. I felt my body responding and I was still experiencing the triple-dose of my hormones right now. My wildfire of need was being fanned, and I was practically walking in panties I already needed to change, by the time she removed her hand. “We need to go over your cover-story and background packets we are going to be briefing you on. You need to be able to recite this story with the ease a person would acquire over a lifetime.” I nodded, and said, “Right, well in case someone f*******: stalks me during the op, got it.” Ren grunted an affirmative sound and he handed me a rather large-sized taser, at least for my little hand. “I cannot send you out with a firearm until you qualify for one in-field training, but I can at least give you one of these. It can put down an immortal or a human without killing them. However, if you use it too long on a mortal, it will likely kill them, so be careful.” He said, and I felt my eyes widen and I said, ‘Sure, might as well give me the loaded gun!” Grendel snorted in amusement and Ren looked frustrated. He was smart enough to know when I was baiting him, and he closed his mouth and waited for my troll mood to pass—wise man! Grendel helped me with the finishing touches on my outfit, and I was sure I had made plans with two humans for tonight, so I was going to have to cancel on Megan. That made me sad, but she was steady enough with me that she knew I did not blow her off on the regular and without a good reason. If I were ever to become rich, I was going to hire a calendar-keeper, just to help me maintain my feeding habits and my dates. My life was a lot more high-drama than I often cared for, but I could not complain, seeing as I was managing to get by and graduate with honors from a six-year college degree all paid for by the Hidden. “let’s just go with the simple silver necklace and a few touches of perfume. I’d rather be understated, than over-the-top.” I told her, and she gave me a musing look and said, “Spoken like a hot grad student, not a high school senior.” Grendel joked, and I rolled my eyes and said, “Please, men don’t often notice things like that, besides maturity, is a curve in this age range.” I added, and my two dutiful protectors fussed over me as we readied ourselves to head out and hunt for a killer chi sucker—that was not me.
