KNOX POV A low grunt escaped my throat, each breath growing heavier than the last as I fought against the climax threatening to consume me. “Look at that,” I muttered coldly. “You suddenly know how to do your job when your life depends on it. I thought I wasted my money to get my c**k sucked” The blonde in my grasp whimpered, tears gathering in her frightened blue eyes. Pathetic. The sight only fueled the disgust churning inside me. I hated blondes. I despised brunettes. That ruled out nearly every woman I’d ever come across. Once upon a time, I might have believed women were capable of loyalty. Now, all I saw were beautiful liars waiting for the perfect opportunity to betray the people who trusted them. “They’re all the same,” I muttered, my jaw tightening. “Manipulative. Selfish. They’ll sell anyone out if it means saving themselves.” The blonde trembled as she tried desperately to please me, but there was no pleasure to be found. There never was. Sex wasn’t about desire anymore. It was just a distraction. A temporary escape from the memories that refused to stay buried. I closed my eyes, trying to lose myself in the sensation, but it didn’t last. For a few fleeting seconds, the tension melted away. A warm mouth around my c**k was the only thing that ever came close to quieting the noise in my head.” The blonde immediately pulled away, coughing as she tried to catch her breath before looking up at me with tear-filled eyes. I stared at her for a long moment before reaching into my wallet and tossing a thick stack of bills onto the bed. “Take it,” I said coldly. “And get the f**k out.” She didn’t argue. She snatched the money with trembling hands, hurriedly gathered her clothes, and rushed toward the door without looking back. The room fell silent the moment it closed behind her. I leaned back against the headboard and dragged a hand down my face, but the familiar emptiness was still there, sitting in my chest like it always did. No amount of alcohol. No amount of s*x. Nothing ever made it disappear. “You f*****g despise them, so why the hell do you keep f*****g them?” I didn’t bother looking up. Only one person walked into my room without knocking. “You’re late, Zane.” He leaned against the doorway with a lazy grin, his hands tucked into the pockets of his tailored trousers. “I figured I’d give you a few extra minutes,” he drawled. “Would’ve been rude to interrupt.” A humorless chuckle escaped me. “You should’ve joined.” He snorted. “Not my kind of party.” His grin slowly disappeared, replaced by an expression that instantly caught my attention. “Guess who’s coming to the Ridge.” My eyes lifted to his. “Who?” “Dante Michaelson’s daughter.” My expression darkened. “Adessa Michaelson?” Zane nodded. “The one and only.” A cold smile tugged at the corner of my lips. “Well… this semester just got a whole lot more interesting.” A slow, cold smile tugged at the corner of my lips. “Looks like Ridgeview is finally about to get so much fun.” Zane folded his arms across his chest, watching me carefully. “I knew you’d say that.” I pushed myself off the bed and reached for the black dress shirt draped over the chair, slipping it over my shoulders before fastening the first few buttons. “When is she arriving?” “Tomorrow morning.” “Classes?” “The same with ours.” Zane said A smirk played on my lips. “Perfect.” If Dante Michaelson’s daughter was coming to Ridgeview, she was stepping into our territory. That's best news we've had in months. I buttoned the cuffs of my shirt before grabbing my watch from the nightstand. “Where’s Crew?” Zane rolled his eyes. “Where else?” “The underground?” I said He nodded. “Some i***t thought it’d be smart to challenge him in the ring.” I let out a dry chuckle. “And?” “The poor bastard made it halfway through the first round before Crew broke his jaw.” “Only his jaw?” “Three ribs, a shoulder, and I think a knee too.” “So Crew was taking it easy.” Zane laughed. “Apparently.” I grabbed my gun from the table, checked the magazine out of habit, and slid it into the holster beneath my jacket. “We’re going to the underground.” Zane arched a brow. “To stop him?” I looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “f**k no.” A grin spread across my face. “I want front-row seats.” Zane shook his head with a sigh. “I swear, one day the two of you are going to be the death of this city.” “Only one day?” The corner of his mouth twitched. “Let’s go. Before Crew decides to decorate the ring with another body.” Together, we walked out of the penthouse, the anticipation of tomorrow lingering in the back of my mind. Adessa Michaelson. By this time tomorrow… She’d be walking straight into blazing hell.
