ALEX POV
Presently, on my way home, I shook my head, thinking of the conversation I just had with Jarvis. After leaving the library, I said goodbye to his mom and Bianca and left immediately. I hate drama, and I have a feeling this night is going to be full of it. I reached home and signaled the guard to open the gate. As I drove in, I noticed several guards working on a car.
"Gabriel!", I called for our head of security and asked him what was going on.
"The boss said the whole family was going to a banquet, so we are preparing the car for transport", he replied, and I was shocked. I confirmed with him that my dad said the whole family, and he answered positively.
I rushed into the house, looking to ask my father for an explanation. As I was about to race to his room, I saw him in the bar, just sipping some champagne. He looked as if he was expecting my reaction.
I stared at him intensely for a minute before he spoke, "You came a little bit early; the date didn't go well?"
"It wasn't a date; it was a project meeting in his home with his mom around. I wasn't aware that the whole family was going to Diana's party", I asked while sipping the champagne he poured for me.
"We received an invitation inviting the whole family, and I didn't feel like refusing. Your mom and I have been cooped up, so we decided it was time to meet your new friends' parents", he replied.
"The great French mafia boss just decided to go to a normal birthday banquet with parents, and you expect me to just accept that", I asked in disbelief.
"Well, yeah", he said with a smirk on his face.
"That's not going to happen. You've been acting strange since we got here. What is the real purpose of us coming here?", I asked, giving him a hopeful face.
"Ma Petite Chérie, stop looking for conspiracy theories. I just want you and your brother to have a good time", he said while patting my shoulder.
He left climbing up the stairs and my mum chose that time to come out from the kitchen.
"Mum, as usual, you somehow listen to everything that goes on in this house", I said draining the remaining champagne in the glass.
"What can I do? It's my superpower", she replied storing the remaining champagne.
"Why did Dad bring us here?", I asked.
"He has already told you the reason", she said and I looked at her confused.
"Cheer up, we have to dress up and time waits for no one. Paul seems very excited", she chuckled and said.
"He is just excited about the ladies going to be there. Which outfit are we wearing?", I asked curiously.
"Some of the clothes we ordered from Marie have arrived", she said excitedly.
"Isn't Marie's clothes a bit overkill for the banquet?", I exclaimed in surprise.
"This is our first public family outing, we are going in style", she said leading us upstairs. We spent the next 2 hours preparing and dressing up. When Paul saw us, he whistled and my mom looked at him with a frown and he raised his hand in surrender. My dad complimented my mom in French making her blush.
Gabriel took some pictures of us. We were wearing matching outfits by Marie, the best designer in France. We got in the car and chatted all the way. The journey took about 45 minutes and we disembarked from the car. I have to say the hall looks impressive. I recall that Diana said that the birthday celebration wasn’t in her house but in a beautiful event hall. Several waiters came and led us while introducing the hall. It has a history of 50 years and has also served as the wedding reception hall for a president.
We got to the end of a hallway and were told we had to have our names announced before walking in. My dad agreed and they announced our names. My dad and mom went first.
“Introducing the family of the McQueen’s. Presenting Mr. and Mrs. McQueen who are from France and have come here to celebrate with their children”, we heard the applause and it was our turn.
“Presenting their lovely children, Paul and Alexander McQueen. They have taken the school by storm with their beauty and charisma”, he said and another applause came mixed with whistles as we came down.
I observed the hall while coming down and saw Xander with Josie, and I smiled happily. My mom and dad were already engrossed in conversation with several parents. Paul shook him as I gave him a hug when we met Xander. Paul congratulated Xander and hurried to meet a girl I didn’t recognize. The three of us chuckled, and I asked them how yesterday went. Josie told me, and I gave him a thumbs up.
I asked him why he didn’t come back last night, and they smiled, and I just chuckled. We continued chatting, and soon our group grew, with some of Chad’s group coming around.
"Hey, old friend”, I smiled and turned back to see Chad looking dashing in a gorgeous suit.
“I thought you had left town?”, I asked while hugging him.
“Chad only comes to school when he feels like it”, Xander answered.
“It doesn’t mean I am a bad kid”, Chad hurriedly defended, and we all started laughing. Chad and I started discussing. We had things to talk about, we hadn’t seen in like a week.
“Introducing the celebrant”, we all stopped our conversations and looked at the door. Harry stood halfway on the stairs waiting. I looked around and saw Jarvis.
“He came in a while ago and has just been drinking with his friends”, Jane (one of Chad’s friends) told me. I hoped today wouldn’t go badly.
“The lovely and enchanting Diana Carter" she came in, and everyone gave her a thunderous applause. I smiled happily as she came down the stairs. Harry took her hand while giving her a peck and led her to the bottom of the stairs. Everyone grew quiet as her speech began.
“I want to thank everyone for taking the time to come and celebrate my 19th birthday. I am very grateful. Last year’s celebration didn’t end well, and I apologize for that. This past year has been a year of sorrow and joy. I have lost and gained friends. I endured so much but came out on top. So on this very day, please let there be no sorrow but joy all around. Cheers!”, she said as she took a glass and drank.
“Cheers”, the crowd chorused and drank. She did her birthday dance with Harry and her parents, and the banquet continued. I dragged Chad over to her and hugged her happily.
“You did great, and you look beautiful”, I said while releasing the hug.
“Yes, I am so happy. Everything turned out great. I look great, but you look stunning. We are clearly sharing the attention”, she said, and she showed me several people looking our way.
“You have to introduce me to your designer. Your dress is stunning”, she said.
“No problem. Forget about me and celebrate. It’s your birthday”, I said, taking her to the dance floor. We spent the next hour dancing and having fun. I danced with Paul, Xander, Chad, and many others. I noticed most kids looking at their phones. I opened my phone and went to the school forum to see that Xander had posted a message inviting everyone to the after-party.
Diana looked shocked at the message, and Xander came, trying to convince her to go.
“It’s your birthday. Don’t let the enjoyment stop just yet. Our parents are here, so we are restricted. Everything is all set up there. The party has already begun”, he showed us a video of the place, and the DJ had already begun playing with people dancing. She thought for a few seconds before agreeing.
We spent the next 10 minutes separating from our parents and changing clothes that Xander had prepared (he brought a massive wardrobe). We then got into buses, taking us to the party. We got down, and we joined the party. Diana started thanking Xander.
“I did think of the plan for this, but I can’t take all the credit. He organized everything”, he said, and Jarvis came to us.
We looked shocked, and the atmosphere was silent.
“I am sorry for not getting your permission to do this. This is my apology. I am very sorry for how I behaved this past year. I hope you can forgive me”, he begged and he with his friends took off a jacket showing them wearing shirts with sorry faces on it.
Diana was crying and nodded. Jarvis breathed a sigh of relief and took the mic.
“Introducing our celebrant, the awesome Diana Carter. It’s Party Time”, he shouted and our screams sounded everywhere.
