Chapter 41

We got lucky. By the next afternoon, we found a new cave. We had to thank the wolf cub, White, for this. White had grown up. With Stella's training, he could now go hunting with me. Wolves were natural hunters. Even though White was young, he could help me chase small prey, like wild chickens and foxes, better than some grown hunting dogs. Today, White led me to a hidden stone cave in the northern forest. The cave entrance was covered by many plants, making it well hidden. Inside, it was spacious, and best of all, there was a spring. It would make fetching water much easier for us. I noticed that the spring had fresh water and seemed quite deep, likely connected to groundwater. Occasionally, small fish and shrimp swam in it. 'If we ever run out of food, we can catch fish. It's perfect.' The only downside was that because of the spring, the cave was quite damp. It wasn't good for long-term living, as it could breed snakes and insects. Fortunately, we would light fire every day to evaporate some of the moisture, so it shouldn't be a big problem. We also had insect repellents, and we collected plenty of reed stalks which solved the mosquito problem as well. Everyone liked the new cave. Under my arrangement, everyone started working together to clear the cave. Suddenly, Zoe exclaimed, "Hey, guys! Come here! There is something written on the wall!" When I heard that, my heart sank, and I felt a sense of dread. The last cave we found was strange enough. Now, we finally found a new one. Would we be unlucky again? I hurried over and breathed a sigh of relief. The writing Zoe found was not left by ancient indigenous people. Instead, those were newer marks. The writing looked like Japanese. It looked delicate, likely written by a woman. It covered almost an entire wall. However, the writing became hastier and more erratic. Even I, who knew nothing about Japanese, could sense the madness in the handwriting. I frowned, "Could it be that the person who wrote this was stranded on this island like us and eventually went mad?" This was just my guess, but the girls around me nodded in agreement. "It's a pity that none of us understand Japanese, or we could have known what she wrote!" Mandy sighed. "This woman is so pitiful. She must have been so lonely without anyone to talk to, so she wrote on the walls," Zoe said, pursing her lips and looking at the writing with sympathy. "Luckily, we have each other. If I were alone on this island, I might go mad too," Stella let out a sigh. The depth of the writing indicated it was carved over multiple days. Her writing became more and more erratic and crazier. Did she encounter something strange? Did she die in the end? Would we meet the same fate? These questions weighed on our minds. "Don't think too much. We're doing fine now. Once we get through this, we'll build a boat and leave this place," I encouraged everyone with a smile. Everyone's spirits lifted, and they continued working on their tasks. But Eva's gaze stayed on the writing. I found it odd. "What's wrong, Eva? Do you recognize the writing?" "No, I don't know Japanese. I was just taking a look." Eva turned her face away and busied herself with her work, not looking at the writing again. I felt like there was a stone in my heart, making me feel uncomfortable. When Eva was looking at the writing, she seemed very focused, unlike us who didn't understand Japanese and just glanced over it. She looked at it carefully and even paused occasionally. I suspected Eva knew Japanese but didn't want to tell us. I sighed, pushing the chaotic thoughts aside, and started arranging the supplies. After moving into this cave, we no longer needed to keep night watch. We could rest well at night and be more energetic for hunting the next day. However, as the weather got colder, food became harder to find, and our lives became very difficult. Every time I thought of those stolen prey, my resentment towards Leo and his gang deepened. Apart from our daily hunting, I also increased my efforts to search for them, spending one to two hours daily searching the northwestern forest. It was a significant task, but I had to do it. It wasn't just about retrieving our supplies. It was also for revenge and eliminating potential threats! A few days later, I made a discovery while searching! That afternoon, I caught a wild chicken and a fish and planned to clean them at a nearby creek to avoid dirtying our camp. As I approached the creek, I heard women's voices! It wasn't Stella and the others, as I was quite familiar with their voices. I crouched and hid by the dense foliage, and approached the creek stealthily. Peering through a gap in the leaves, I saw several clothes hanging on branches above my head, including underwear. I widened my eyes, looking in the direction of the voices, and saw three women bathing in the creek! Among them was Quinn! They were all naked, playing in the water, clearly not aware of me watching them secretly from the bushes. Seeing such a beautiful sight on the island was quite a surprise. Any other man might not have been able to resist, but my hatred for Quinn was enough to suppress any other feelings. I continued to observe and saw two more women. One of them was a black hottie, whom I also recognized. Her name was Crystal Nixon. She had a clean bob haircut and a hot body. As soon as I saw her, a memory flashed in my mind. Back when I was at the company, William was pursuing Crystal. So, that night, the woman who helped William rob my prey and then escaped must have been her! As for the last woman, I didn't know her. She was quite distinctive, with snow-white skin and a slender body. She even performed a hot dance in the water. I'd call her the dancing girl for now. Seeing those women laughing and having fun, I felt a surge of anger. 'You stole our stuff and tried to murder us several times, yet you're living so comfortably! Especially that b*tch Quinn, laughing so brightly and sweetly!' I wanted to rush out immediately. Before I could act, a piece of clothing hanging on the tree fell. It was one of the clothes the girls had taken off while bathing. I was about to hide when Quinn suddenly turned towards my hiding place, picked up a stone from the shore, and threw it. "Who's there?!" I was startled. My head had almost gotten hit by the stone. Luckily, I ducked and dodged it. I watched as Quinn carefully stepped out of the creek, covering her private areas and holding a sharpened bamboo stick. She started walking towards me. Hearing her footsteps getting closer, my heart leaped into my throat.
