I closed my eyes, enjoying Mandy's gentle touch, and reached out to rub her butt quietly. She gave me a shy glare but didn't stop me.
"Jerk, what bad thing are you thinking about now?" Stella's suspicious voice interrupted us suddenly. I opened my eyes to see her squinting at me with disdain.
"Pervert, do you desire every pretty woman you see?" Stella grumbled, pinching my waist in annoyance.
I wasn't wearing any clothes, so her pinch hurt. I winced and was about to retaliate, but Stella had already stepped back, keeping her distance while taunting me with a huff.
I found it strange. Didn't she say she didn't want to look at me? So why did she always ruin my fun at crucial moments? I couldn't help but smirk at her behavior.
"That's right. Of course, I like beauties like Mandy and Zoe. As for you, even if you threw yourself at me, I'd have to think about it twice," I teased, mimicking her earlier appraisal.
Stella's proud expression crumbled instantly. She screamed and charged at me. "What do you mean by that, Zack?!" I ran away quickly, leading her in circles around the cave. Mandy watched us with an amused smile, and the atmosphere in the cave lightened significantly.
After some playful banter, the evening turned into night.
I lay on my grass mat, feeling dizzy. My body, though strong, couldn't withstand an hour of rain, and I was starting to succumb to illness. My eyelids felt like they were glued together, but I forced myself to stay awake.
I had just dealt with Leo, and he surely hated me to the core. Who knew if he might try to attack me while I was sick? I had planned to get rid of him first, but things had turned out this way, giving him an opportunity.
"Mandy, come closer. I need to tell you something," I croaked, my throat sore and voice hoarse.
Mandy sensed my condition and came over to comfort me. "Zack, you have a fever. Just rest and don't speak too much," she said gently, helping me sit up and feeding me some water carefully.
I smiled weakly at her and rested my head on her shoulder. Whispering in her ear, I said, "Be careful of Leo. Here, take it." I handed her my weapons.
Mandy, being smart, understood my concern immediately and glared at Leo, who was sulking in the corner. "Rest assured, I'll keep an eye on him," she said firmly, gripping the rifle.
Leo kept his head down, but the resentment in his eyes grew more intense.
The girls were all worried about me. Zoe, unable to find any medicine, cooked a bowl of hot soup for me.
Finally, I collapsed into the bed and fell asleep. But it wasn't a peaceful sleep. I had many dreams. One moment, I was in a snowy wasteland; the next, I was burning with heat. I dreamed of leaving the island and marrying the girls, then of monsters emerging from the island, killing us all.
In my half-conscious state, I felt the girls taking care of me. Stella, clumsy as ever, was trying to feed me water. This girl had once said she wouldn't care if I got sick. Yet, it seemed like she was crying, her hot tears falling on my face and breaking my heart.
She was such a troublesome woman. I wanted to jump out of bed and teach her a lesson, but I could only think about it. I didn't have the strength; the cold seemed to seep deeper into my bones, making my hands and feet numb.
It didn't feel like just a fever. Had I been bitten by some poisonous insect? My mind was unable to make sense of anything. Was I going to die this time?
As darkness surrounded me gradually, a warm light appeared by my side again! Mandy hugged me tightly, her body heat flowing into me. Surprisingly, under her embrace, I began to feel my strength and warmth returning.
With great effort, I opened my eyes and saw Mandy nestled in my arms. She was pale from my cold body temperature but showed no sign of letting go. Seeing her beautiful profile, a warm feeling surged through my heart.
For the first time, I felt a sting in my eyes and an urge to cry.
At that moment, there was no desire in my heart; I felt a deep sense of peace.
I felt as if I had been reborn.
Suddenly, a foul smell of blood approached me.
It had to be Leo, that bastard!
My mind was foggy, and I couldn't react quickly. When I opened my eyes, I saw Leo's dark figure looming over me, shocking me wide awake!
He had taken advantage of Mandy putting down the weapon to care for me and everyone else falling asleep to steal the gun! If Leo got his hands on the gun, I was done for!
Somehow, I found the strength to jump up from the bed and shouted coldly, "B*stard, what are you doing?!" My voice boomed like thunder in the silent cave.
Leo jumped at my shout. "Nothing, nothing!" My earlier beatings had left a psychological scar on him. My yell froze him on the spot. He was too scared to move.
But seeing my pale face and unsteady steps, Leo remembered I was nearly dead from illness. A fierce determination returned to him, and he grabbed the Type 38 rifle leaning against the wall quickly. "Zack, I'm going to kill you!" he snarled.
He raised the gun and aimed it at my head. Seeing the dark barrel, cold sweat broke out all over me.
Leo pulled the trigger, but he didn't know how to handle a gun; he hadn't even chambered a round. The gun did nothing. Leo stood there, dumbfounded.
There was no time to think. I lunged at him, pinning him to the ground and preventing him from firing the gun. I yanked the rifle out of his hands and swung the butt hard into his face.
Leo screamed and struggled, but I didn't give him a chance. I stomped on his head, pressing it onto the ground and kicking him a few more times. I felt a surge of strength, pummeling Leo relentlessly.
The commotion woke the other girls up. They saw the terrifying scene, and their disdain for Leo grew even stronger. None of them tried to stop me.
The wound on Leo's head, which I had inflicted previously, split open again. Losing blood and overwhelmed by pain, Leo soon lost all the will to fight back, collapsing on the ground like a dead dog. I stopped, not wanting to become a murderer by beating him to death.
I kicked his bulky body towards the cave entrance.
Quinn, stunned by my fierce display, regained her composure quickly. She took out a rope and approached Leo, tying him up. "Leo, you're disgusting! How could you attack Zack while he's sick?" She scolded him harshly. "I misjudged you before! I had no idea you were this kind of person!"
Leo looked in disbelief at Quinn, whose attitude towards him had completely changed. "You b*tch, now you're sucking up to Zack, aren't you?"
Before he could finish, Quinn slapped him hard across the face.
