Chapter 29

783 Words
The other wolves were scared by the gunshot. Seeing their leader dead, they left with their cubs, howling as they went. I breathed a sigh of relief and jumped into the pit quickly. The male wolf had lost a lot of blood, and I couldn't afford to waste any more time, fearing other predators would be attracted. I used my clothes as a makeshift rope and hauled the big wolf out. By the time I returned to the cave with my prey, it was completely dark. The wind was blowing fiercely, cutting into my face like a knife, making me extremely uncomfortable. As soon as I opened the door, I saw the girls standing at the cave entrance, waiting for me anxiously. Zoe's eyes were red from crying. I had returned too late this time, and the girls had heard the distant howls of wolves in the forest, scaring them to death. "Zack, you're finally back!" Zoe threw herself into my arms as soon as I walked in. Her soft, adorable body made me want to pin her down and ravage her. "Sorry, I'm late," I said lovingly, patting her head while setting down the wolf I carried on my back. Seeing the big, beautiful furry wolf I brought back, the girls' tears turned into smiles, and they were overjoyed. The oppressive atmosphere in the cave vanished. This furry wolf was our greatest catch since arriving on the island! Not only could its beautiful fur be used to make clothes, but its meat, after removing the bones, would weigh around 60-80 pounds. If preserved with sea salt, it would feed us for a long time. Eva lowered her head and pried open the paw of the furry wolf, feeling the cold, sharp touch of its claws. She couldn't help but sigh, "These creatures are pack animals, right? If two or three of them surrounded me, I'd have a hard time escaping. And you caught one." As she spoke, she looked at me with admiration in her eyes. I couldn't help but feel proud. Even Stella, who always had a sharp tongue, gave me a thumbs up and said softly, "Good job." Just saying that made her blush, and she kept her head down as if showing admiration to me was embarrassing. I quickly called everyone to help dissect the furry wolf. Of course, our clumsy boss, Stella, could only help by tending the fire. I was afraid she'd ruin its fur. Stella was tending the fire and handing me water occasionally. She looked like a pitiful little maid, which amused me greatly. We soon skinned the furry wolf, revealing its warm, beautiful fur. Mandy washed the blood off the fur and hung it up to dry. Zoe prepared some fish and wolf meat for a feast. The wolf meat was quite tough, similar to beef. I expected it to be very gamey, but Zoe's cooking skills were excellent. She used some wine to remove the gamey taste completely. With good food and drink, everyone had a great time. Over the next few days, I used traps to catch more animals. The biggest surprise came when I found the female furry wolf from that day in a bush, nearly dead. It seemed to have fought some beast and was seriously infected. Shortly after I found it, the female furry wolf died. Beside it was a wolf cub, which hid under its mother's body. When it saw me, it peeked out in fear. After some hesitation, I decided to bring both the cub and its dead mother back. The cub had inherited its parents' beautiful white fur, looking like a mix between a cat and a dog. The girls' eyes lit up when they saw it, eager to hold it. I stopped them quickly. "It looks cute, but it's still a beast. Don't get bitten; we don't have rabies vaccines here." If we weren't careful, we could end up like the dead mother wolf. I made a cage and put the cub inside, planning to slaughter it for food when fresh meat ran out. Stella looked at me with tear-filled eyes. "Zack, please don't kill it. We've already eaten its parents. It's too cruel. Why don't we raise it like a puppy?" Her words swayed the other girls, who all looked at me pleadingly. "It’s a wolf. If it turns on us, we could get hurt. We can't take that risk." I shook my head, rejecting her proposal. Stella came closer, wrapping her arms around mine and pressing her body against me. Her soft body made my mind wander. Unaware of how enticing she was, she looked at me pitifully. "Please don't kill it, okay?"
