Liam
No matter how hard I try, my mind keeps drifting to that wild hair lady in my apartment. To some people, I am a selfish bastard for keeping her away from her life, from her friends but it’s something I have to do, I have to protect her from my father.
‘If you keep telling yourself that, it might eventually become the truth.’ My subconsciousness mocked. I chuckled at myself. Even Badok is not in support of my decision, but then he had no other option than to follow my orders, he has no right to question me.
Relaxing on the back rest, I prepared a deck, rolled it, lighted it, took a drag then put a call across to Badok. He’s five hours away from the city, keeping an eye on my vixen.
He picked up instantly. “Hello boss.”
“How is she?” She should be awake by now. She went to hungry last night so I bet she’ll wake up hungry this morning.
“Do you want my honest reply?” He grumbled “I don’t even understand what I’m doing here, why I’m out here in the middle of no where babysitting a grown adult.”
“I asked you a question Badok.” He shouldn’t be grumbling, his lavish live style is because I chose to pick him up. He should be grateful to me for life.
“She’s fine.” Badok chastised one of the guards in background. “Do you think Clifford will approve of this? Keeping her here?”
“I am not answerable to my father, I don’t need his approval. In case you’ve forgotten, I’m in charge Badok, not my father. Let this be the last time you’ll question me.”
Badok knows not to push my buttons. “Yes boss.”
“Has she had something to eat this morning?” I find it funny that the best way she feels she can exhibit her stubbornness is by embarking on hunger strike. I mean how is that suppose to affect me?
“Yes, she came down for breakfast few minutes ago.”
“What did you say to her?” Badok has a sharp mouth when provoked, there is no way he’ll sit on the same table with Samantha without saying anything to her.
“I said nothing.” He’s lying to me and I’m sure he knows I can tell. “I just served her breakfast and went my way.”
“You cooked?” Should I be worried about Badok seducing my woman? “You never agree to cook willingly, What changed?”
“I was bored and it was driving me crazy which was why I decided to cook.” He signed deeply. “Honestly boss man, how long do I have to be here?”
“Cent will be coming over later in the day, I need you over here the moment he arrives.” Someone knocked on my door and I granted permission. “Don’t be late Badok, drive straight to the club.” I disconnected the call and turned to Ashley. “How may I help you?”
“I found them.” She announced. I gestured towards the empty seat, instructing her to sit down. “They’ve been living with fake identity in Toronto.” She dropped pictures of two familiar faces on the table. “Jameson and Deborah.”
Jameson? Really? I chuckled bitterly. He just had to take the name of my favourite liquor. “What are the up to in Toronto?”
“Deborah is parading as a school teacher and Jameson is a gardener for Petrov.” Ashley chuckled at the absurdity. “We’re still trying to find out if Petrov knows of his real identity.”
“I doubt he knows.” I stared at the pictures again. “One thing is certain here, one of the parties is using the other. It’s either Petrov knows of their real identity but kept them close because he wants the same thing we want, or Petrov is ignorant, and Jameson is using him as a form of protection from people like us which I find not only funny, but stupid.”
“Are we certain Jameson has what we want?” Ashley questioned.
My hand tightened round my glass. “He should. His father stole from us and now he’s dead, it’s only right that he hands his stolen legacy over to his son.” Father trusted his father, he went as far as calling him his best friend, but the old man did not only stab him in the back, he stabbed him repeatedly in his chest.
“What should we do about this? Should we approach them?”
Approach them? That is not my style. When I end someone who betrayed my family, I do not send my men, I do the honour myself. “Do not approach them yet, let them play their game of lies until I’m done accessing the situation.”
“Okay boss.” She stood to her feet. “I’ll take my leave now.” With a slight jerk of my head, she headed for the door.
“Keep this information from my father.” She halted her steps. “I’ll be the one to notify him when the time is right.” If Clifford hears this, he’ll drag them down here and torture them until they provide that diamond.
She gave me a curt nod before walking out of my office. Picking up the picture again, I stared at the couple. Surely they must know something about the diamonds hence the reason why they’ve been hiding. Changing their names from Ben and silver to Deborah and Jameson won’t be able to hide them from me. Pathetic scoundrels.
My phone rang and for a moment I contemplated rejecting the call when I saw Marilyn’s name on my screen. She’s the most emotional one in the family, but I don’t blame her, that happens when you have the affection of a renowned ruthless capo.
Clifford won’t let me hear the last of it if I keep refusing her call. Their relationship can be confusing most times. Letting out a sigh of frustration, I answered the call. “Hello Marilyn.”
“Hello son.” I tried not to cringe at that word. “We’re having dinner with the Sebastian's tonight, I’d love you to stop by even if it’s just for few minutes.”
I should be with Samantha, not having dinner with people I’d rather not be with. “I’ll be busy Marilyn, maybe some other time.”
“Your father wants you here too.” She spoke with nervousness. “I think he has something important he wants to discuss with you.”
I refuse to be cajoled. “Tell him to drop by the club tomorrow, I promise to make out time for him.” If she’s trying to lure me to have dinner with them, then she should think of better ways to do that. Using my father isn’t going to do s**t for me.
“Please Liam, do not have another fight with your father, I don’t think my fragile heart is going to be able to take it.” When it was obvious that I wasn’t going to bend, she sighed. “An hour of your time is all I ask for, can’t you do this much for me?”
“Fine.” One hour of my time won’t kill me. “I’d better not regret this dinner.” I disconnected the call. The pictures found its place in my drawer, away from preying eyes. Very soon, things will be as it was suppose to be.

Badok arrived later in the day. Although he tried not to show it, I could tell he wasn’t happy with his duties in the morning.
“She can’t be that bad.” I joked. “Samantha may be stubborn as hell, but she’s fun to be with.”
“You’re right, she’s a lovely lady,” my teasing smile disappeared and I eyed him suspiciously. “But I’m worried about the outcome of this whole thing.” He lifted his eyes from his wine glass. “What is the end game boss?”
“That isn’t any business of yours.” I reminded him, something I do not like doing. Reminding people of their place. “It’s your job to do as you’re told without questioning my motives or my decisions.”
He lifted his hand in surrender. “I hear you boss.” Satisfied with his response, I relaxed back and watched the dancers perform. “Guess who I saw on my way here.”
I feel nothing for this completely naked women. Ever since I laid my eyes on Samantha, it seems my d**k disagrees with every other lady. “If you have something to tell me, then spill it. Stop beating around the f*****g bush.”
“You’re no fun at all.” He grumbled. “I saw that fucker Luke with officer Rico.” I glanced at him momentarily then returned my eyes to the dancers. “I think Jonas was telling the truth.”
The i***t who couldn’t withstand torture. You see, my family is deep neck into illegal activities, such as drugs, illegal arm, stealing of rare gems, but our wealth originated from illegal trading of diamonds. We buy at cheaper rate from black markets and sell it out to people who use it for illegal production…or more to the highest bidder.
Our last diamond heist was at that auction where I met Samantha. Nothing about that auction was legal, hence the reason nobody reported the robbery case to the authorities.
Jonas on the other hand, felt he could steal from me, he took three necklace which has two sapphire and one emerald and disappeared into the thin air; or so he thought because my men found him the next day, brought him down to our family house where I killed him after he ratted Luke out as the master mind.
Of course, it was that same killing that Samantha witnessed.
“What made you think he was telling the truth?” My father has been on a look out for Luke, he told me to leave Luke to him and I did. Honestly, I do not care about those gems, I only want to set an example of him to others who might think of stealing from me too. “For all we know, Jonas was just spilling s**t so we can let him go.”
He tilted his head with deep consideration and I smirked; guess I like messing with his head. “I still think Jonas was telling the truth. Why other reason will Luke be meeting with an officer?”
That I do not know. “Enlighten me.”
He flashed me a boyish grin. “Oh I will, but that will be after I pay Patricia a visit tonight.” His cop lover . If I had any atom of human conscience in me, I would have pitied the young lady. She actually believes Badok is my club manager, and that one day, they’ll get married and push out nuggets.
“I can’t wait for the day she’ll find out what she is to you,” a means to an end, someone who unknowingly does our dirty work in the system. “She’ll put a bullet in your balls, I’m sure of it.”
He chuckled at the thought. “Patricia loves me too much to that, she won’t be willing to leave even after she finds out what she is to me.”
“If you find out that he is rattling us out in hope of getting protection from them, bring him to me.” I’ll make sure he dies by my bullet.
“But your father_”
“f**k what my father said,” it’s been a week already, and he’s yet to take him out of this world. “Like I said, if he’s saying s**t he isn’t suppose to say, bring him to me before they take him seriously.” The last thing I need is the blue coat at my door step.
“I’ll find out what he’s up to tomorrow.”
Fed up with the view, I turned my seat around, facing Badok. “Ashley found them.” I informed him. He is my second-in-command, it’s only right that I let him know what’s going on.
“Ben and Silver?” He snickered “I just knew it that Ashley will definitely find them. It’s difficult to hide away from her eagle eyes. So where are they at?”
“Toronto, disguising as Deborah and Jameson, a school teacher and a f*****g gardener for Petrov.”
His brows creased. “Petrov? Is he offering them protection or what?”
“Ashley is yet to find out, but she will soon.” I trust her that much when it comes to providing needed information.
“Well this sucks. If he is indeed providing protection, this might lead to another war between the family.” I’m not afraid of war, I’m so Clifford will agree with me too. “What is your father saying about this?”
“He’s yet to know, and I want to keep it that way.”
“Oh… Okay.” He gulped down his whiskey, grabbed his leather jacket and stood up. “I have to get going, if I want to meet up with Patricia, then I have to finish my errands on time.” I watched him walk out of my office.
**************
As I walked into the house I grew up in, I wondered why I agreed to this dinner in the first place. I should be home having dinner with Samantha for f***s sake. I should be eating to know her, who knows I might get lucky tonight in the bedroom.
Just the thought of Samantha in my room, on my bed made me painfully hard. I adjusted the growing bugle in my pants, hoping that I don’t embarrass myself in there. When was the last time I got hard so quickly? Probably during senior high school days.
“He’s here!” Marilyn announced the moment I walked into the dining room. My father and our guests looked towards me. “I told you he is going to make it, his word is his bound.” She announced happily.
Amused by her ecstatic behaviour, I kissed her forehead before settling next to her. “Sorry I’m late, there was an issue that I couldn’t forfeit.” The apology isn’t for my father or Sebastian and his family, it’s for this woman for whom I left my woman unattended.
“The most important thing is that you made it.” Clifford acknowledged. “How is business?”
“Smooth.” My monosyllabic response has a lot to do with these outsiders dining with us. “What’s the occasion?” Clifford isn’t the type to just invite people into his home.
“This is Sebastian,” I relaxed back, ignoring the plate of chicken laps. “And this is his daughter Cherry. I’m sure you know her.”
“I’ve heard nothing about her.” I responded calmly.
“Well, that’s about to change son.” I arched my brows. “You see, right before you were born, we reached a pact with this family that we’ll unite our family with marriage between our children.” He smiled, enjoying the conversation more than he should. “You’re my only child which means it has to be you.”
I need a f*****g smoke. “What is that suppose to mean?” I questioned, my voice dangerously low. He better not be insinuating what I’m thinking.
“It means you’ll have to get married to Cherry.” I glanced at the girl in question and she smiled warmly at me, heightening my irritation. “We’ll give you both time to get to know each other.” Everybody except Cherry and I stood up.
“Sit the f**k down!” I hissed at them. This has to be some sick joke. “You honestly think I’ll agree to this nonsense?”
“You don’t have an option son.” Clifford warned.
“Oh I do.” I snapped, standing to my feet too. “I do and my answer is no. I will not marry her just because you think you can control my f*****g life.”
“I’m not doing this to control your life.” His eyes held mine, warning me not to defy him. “I’m doing this for the family.”
“You mean the family that I control now? The family that I lead?” Chuckling humourlessly, I stared at Marilyn with disappointment. I can’t believe she told me to come here for this nonsense. “My answer is no Clifford, I will not get married to this bitch.”
“Excuse us.” He growled and everybody shuffled out of the dining room. “When I say you will, then you will. You do not want to make an enemy out of me son, I know of your weaknesses.”
“You know nothing about me!” I hissed. “I am Liam, the boss lording this family and you, do well to remember that!”
“I was willing to accept that you keep her as your concubine, not let me have a rethink.” His lips twisted in a tight smile. “My thoughts run wild if provoked.”
“What nonsense are you on about?”
“The fact that I know you are trying to keep that woman from the other night. I know you’re hiding her somewhere, and trust me, finding her won’t be difficult.”
I huffed. “You mean the same way you found Luke?” He dipped his hands into his pocket and observed me with a mischievous glint twinkling in his eyes. “Good luck with that.”
“I’ll find her the same way I found your mother.”
I masked my shock. “Nonsense! My mum is dead and you know it!”
“Is she?” He took a stop towards me. “You’ll do as I say, I’d hate to harm the two women you seem to care about.”
