Stone “Fuck.” I gritted my teeth as fury about my own stupidity tore through me, causing my chest to hurt and my eyes to water. I wanted to blame it on the hot, unforgiving torrent of water that pelted my back from inside my spacious shower, but knew it would be a lie. Nothing and no one could make me break but that woman out there. Seeing in her eyes the pain that my words had caused her was like a punch to my gut. I"d wanted to take the words back, to somehow turn the damn clock back, but what good would that have done? I wasn"t wrong. The way I"d spoken to her was, though. I never wanted to cause her hurt, even unintentionally. I planned on loving that woman for the rest of my life and, whether I liked it or not, I needed to tread lightly with her.
