Chapter Six Phoenix wanted to throw his cane across the doctor’s office or plow his fist into the doctor’s face, as if it were somehow the man’s fault that Phoenix’s leg was shattered beyond repair. “You need to accept that your life has changed,” the doctor was saying. “You need to find new hobbies, Mr. Chamberlain.” The doctor cleared his throat, and then added, “I also recommend therapy.” “I’m in therapy!” Phoenix spat out. “I’m not talking about physical therapy,” the doctor announced, his expression kind and condescending.
