Episode 2- King Darius

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.” Sarah said. The line goes dead. I hadn’t talked to Sarah in Goddess knows how long. I was shocked that she still had the same number. How did it come to this? Members of different packs have gone missing without a trace. Some turn up dead, others we haven’t even been able to find even a subtle clue as to where they are. Attacks happening to packs in the middle of the night with no warning or foot step to even indicate that they were there other than the burnt houses and bodies left in their wake. “Was that Sarah? Is she coming?” my mate Julie asked. I didn’t even hear her walk in. “Yes. She said she was on her way.” I replied coldly. My mate didn’t deserve the back lash I was giving her from the stress I was under. “I don’t know who in the hell you think you’re talking to but I know for sure it wasn’t me.” She put a hand on her hip and her eyes danced with fire. Now I’ve done it. My mate was a fierce as she was beautiful. I dropped my head. “I’m sorry my love. My head is somewhere else.” I apologized. She walks across the room and sits on the side of my desk and places her hand on my chest. “I know. I feel your burden. I wish you wouldn’t have waited so long to call her. You know she is a lone wolf. She can’t help when she doesn’t know there is a problem.” Julie tried to reason with me but she knows why I tried to wait it out. My son Ronan is away trying to find any trace of who is responsible. When he returns I’m handing my kingdom over to him. I don’t want to leave things to him when our people are in despair. My son is the rightful heir to the throne but if any Alpha feels they are not in good hands they have the right to challenge it and either fight to the death or vote in someone who the Alpha’s unanimously believe will be better. “I know. But damn it. I’m the f*****g king. I shouldn’t have to rely on a girl to come save us.” My anger is physically palpable and I don’t give a s**t. Fire returning to her eyes, she stands and bends down to be face to face with me. “Some girl?! Really? If I remember correctly that girl saved your life on multiple occasions. That girl brought me to you and I think I’m pretty f*****g great. She is our friend! Do you really think if the Alphas would try to challenge Ronan that Sarah wouldn’t step in? Do you really think she wants your crown?! Get the f**k over yourself Darian. She was blessed by the Goddess herself and you have the nerve to act like she is just some random woman. Call me when you grow a pair and be the King and man I once knew.” Julie storms out of the room but not before one final glare and knocking over anything her tiny hands can touch. I’m left speechless looking at the broken glass. “Way to go dumb ass. I can tell you where we won’t be sleeping for the next week. But damn that was hot ” My wolf, Vlad said. “You know she is the only one who could ever get away with talking to me like that.” I replied. *POP* “Darius, Sarah is down stairs.” My wife mind links me. Chills run up my back and her tone. I feel like a child being scolded. She may be little but damn she’s scary. “I’m on my way.” I dodge the glass in my office and make my way down the stairs and to the front room. I see the back of my wife cased in an ungodly amount of untamed red hair. My wife releases her and I’m met with those piercing blue eyes. Her hands immediately fly to her hair. “Ugh. The only downside to popping.” Sarah says. My wife giggles at her remark. With a snap oh her fingers every hair put into place and clothes no longer disheveled. “There.” She smiles. “Darius!” She comes over to give me a quick hug. And I can feel her wolf trying to contact mine. She wants to know why she’s here. “Hey Sarah.” I give her a smile and her expression changes. “Why am I here Darius. I can hear your heart beating like the wings of a humming bird. Aria says you are trying to keep her from speaking to Vlad. Why?” Her aura changes to that of the one true champion. I almost want to cower away. I look at Julie and she is feeling the effects of it too. “Daddy!” My 5 year old daughter yells bounding down the stairs seemingly unaffected by Sarah’s aura. Sarah immediately shifts her gaze to my daughter and her aura returns to normal and her eyes soften. “Hello little one. What is your name?” She asks. “Ellie.” My daughter says proudly and focuses on Sarah’s face. “Daddy. She’s the protector isn’t she. She’s real isn’t she?” Ellie whispers but ends in almost a high pitch squeal. “She is. She is an old friend of mine. This is Sarah.” I say picking my daughter up. “I knew it! Mommy do you see her? Are the stories true? How old are you? Are you really blessed by the Moon? Is your wolf really white? My friends all said they were just stories. Wait until I tell Maggie. She’s going to eat those words.” Ellie says a hundred miles an hour. Sarah smiles and takes Ellie from my arms. Calmness washes over me and I realize Sarah was family then and she is family now. I know and can see the mistakes I’ve made. But she’s here now and all I can do is hope for the well being of my family.
