Chapter 4- Sarah

1062 Words
I step into the big open room. Lavish gold chandeliers hang from the ceiling, brightening up the white walls and marble floors. The room was beautiful in every sense of the word but it may be a little to much for me. “What do you think about camping outside?” Aria asks. “Already ahead of you. I seen a clearing on the way in that would be the perfect place. The castle would be visible and so would the pack lands, but we are still close enough to see and hear what we need to.” I said. “Sounds good to me. I need to stretch my legs anyway. We need to let Darius keep thinking we are staying in this room. It’s not that I don’t trust him or think that he put us in this room for any other reason, but I think it would be wise to trust no one.” Closing my eyes, I pop to the clearing inhaling the scent of wild lavender and pine trees, much better. I go behind a tree and start stripping out of my clothes, so they aren’t ruined during the shift, and hiding them safely behind the tree. I give Aria the go ahead and close my eyes as I feel my teeth elongate, fur sprouting from my skin and slowly dropping down to all fours. I open my eyes to see my white fur sparking in the sunlight. Aria takes off like a shot with wind blowing in our fur and heading straight for the tree line. Rays of light pass by through the trees, the smell of the grass and early spring flowers flood my nose and cold dirt presses against our paws. “This feels amazing! Remind me why we don’t do this more often?” Aria says just as amazed as I am. “I don’t know but we must be crazy. Back to the reason of why we are here. What are your thoughts?” I ask getting back to the subject at hand while letting Aria have complete control. “I don’t know, Sarah, but I don’t like the way this feels. We’ve fought wars before but never a silent opponent.” “I know. The fact that they are targeting mates really struck me.” I said. Mates are our greatest strength but can be shifters biggest weakness. They are your other half. A piece of your soul that you didn’t even know what was missing. When a mate dies, the other part of your soul goes with it. It weakens us not only in strength but mentally. It can even drives the other half insane and ultimately lead them to their death. “I think this is only the beginning, Aria. If they are taking out the mates to weaken the pack, I’m afraid the worst has yet to come. We need to keep our guard up, a lot of people will be here tonight. Who ever it is may try to make a move.” “Agreed. However, first thing tomorrow we go see Remmi. Something is fishy here. Vlad said that Darius told him we were coming when he left a voicemail. He never misses a chance to see us and try to find stuff out. It’s just odd.” Aria adds. “Agreed.” Aria slows and comes to a stop at the end of the pack border. Closing our eyes we listen for the direction of or fine destination. Soon, the sound of running water is clear and we soon find ourselves at the small creek hidden between rocks and wild flowers. Laying down beside the creek, I decide to take a minute just to enjoy this. Before I know it, an over whelming sense to sleep takes over and my eye lids flutter closed. A loud bang wakes me and I find my self no longer in the warm sun but back in my human form laying on cold dirt in a dark dingy room. “f**k!” I yell and close my eyes and hope this isn’t real. I open my eyes and I’m still here. I’m back in that damn cell. I look around the room and a familiar figure is standing in the corner with a look on her face similar to the one of a mother ready to scold her child. “Hello my dear. I found it fitting to bring you back to the beginning.” My anger quickly receding, I bow my head. “Fae Goddess, why here? Why summon me here?” I question, slowly making eye contact. “Sarah, I wanted to remind you again of how you came to be who you are now. You were quick to question one and not the other. I cannot tell you everything but the time will come that you need to remember exactly who you are and show others who you are and what you represent. This up coming battle will be nothing short of twists and turns. Shifters and Fae alike have made mistakes that have brought on this situation. It is time for you to be the protector and peace keeper that you were born to be.” Her face softens and she walks towards me holding out her hands. “Can you tell me who is doing this?” I say as I take her hands in mine. “I’m afraid not. Deceit and greed have brought forth true evil and telling you who is behind it would put my children and the shifters in more danger. You will be on your own for this. You have mastered your gifts for over 200 years. I have all the faith in you, Aria, and your gifts. Trust no one but your heart and keep an open mind. Your heart knows the path from right and wrong, that was the reason we had chose you in the first place.” I study her face but she gives nothing away. Nothing is making sense, my face must show my confusion as she pushes my hair out of my eyes and smiles. “Go my child. Your people are waiting. It’ll all make sense in due time.” She snaps her fingers. I open my eyes and I’m back on the forest floor beside the creek. Well that was interesting.
