AXEL’S “Why not ask your mates’ parents to tell you themselves?” My Dad said coolly the moment I asked him. My wolf wasn’t comfortable with how things were panning out, he wanted to take control and make them talk but I had to suppress it. I began feeling like there was a big secret our parents weren’t telling us and that made me all the more curious. I wanted to know what they were hiding from us. I wanted to know why they were so against Diana and I’s union. I wanted to know what he meant by I didn't know what I had gotten myself into. Come to think of it, why were both my parents and Diana’s parents so against each other? Why were they always at each other's throats? “Mom, Dad? Is there anything you are keeping away from me?” Diana turned to her parents and asked them which made them stop in their tracks. Her parents looked like they had been caught doing something wrong which made my brows crease. These people were keeping something away from us and it was something big. “Why are we even keeping this away from our son? It’s better he knows and gets rid of whatever feeling he has for her,” My Dad did to my mom, and then turned to me. “Listen, Son, Diana is cursed, she has limited time to live on earth,” My Dad told me. Hearing him say that sounded like the lamest excuse anyone could give because of a curse? C’mon, we were in the 21st century, I didn't believe there was anything like witchcraft in existence anymore. I only believed in technology and modernization. I felt like my Dad just said that to cover up whatever it was they were hiding. I paused before I began. “I don’t believe you,” I said, staring straight at my father. “There’s no way I’m falling for that.” He didn’t flinch. He just stood there with that usual cold expression on his face, like he was always the smartest man in the room. My mother stood beside him, her lips pressed tightly together like she already knew this was going to happen. “You expect me to believe Diana is cursed?” I asked, louder now. “Do you think I’m that stupid?” I knew they were keeping something big away from us but this? It felt like a big lie. He finally blinked. “I’m telling you the truth, Axel. She was cursed as a child. Her parents kept it hidden. That’s why—” “No,” I snapped, cutting him off. “Just stop.” I stepped closer to him, breathing heavily. I could feel the heat rising under my skin. My hands were clenched at my sides, and it took everything in me not to punch a hole in the wall. “I am disappointed in you,” I said, my voice lower now but sharper. “You’re willing to say anything, even make up a curse, just to get me to leave her. That’s low, father, even for you.” “She’s dangerous to you, and to this pack,” he said. “You don’t know what that curse could do to your bond.” “I don’t care,” I said right away. “Even if what you’re saying is true, I am not leaving her. You hear me? Never.” Then I turned to look at Diana. She had been quiet the whole time. Too quiet. Her face looked pale after hearing what my Dad said. The sadness in her eyes made my chest tighten. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line, and her eyes were wide like she had just seen something terrible. I could tell right away that she believed them. My heart sank as I took a slow step toward her. “Diana…” I started softly, but she didn’t even look at me. She turned her head and looked at her parents instead. Her voice was shaky but clear when she spoke. “Is it true?” she asked. “Is what they said true? Am I truly cursed and have limited time to live on earth?”
