The cab which took dropped me off in front of Austin’s building. I didn’t want to drive the car myself. I felt… rather motivated! I told myself that Austin must have been fond of me to invite me to spend an evening with his sister. It was like an official presentation. In the elevator, my heart was thumping like mad. My hands felt cold and my throat was dry.
I punched in the code to the penthouse and the elevator started to move up. As the doors opened onto the large loft apartment, I thought I was breathless. Breathe Rachel, breathe… my subconscious had to check up on me every time. I took a deep breath and moved forward. Andrea was already there, her back turned towards the kitchen, sitting on one of the bar stool. She hadn’t noticed me. Tough luck, no sign of Austin.
