Nevada – Area 51The shuttle only took a few minutes to break through the Earth's atmosphere and position itself at about two thousand metres above the agreed point.
"Now let’s play a little trick on them," said Petri, giving the Colonel a slight nudge.
"What the devil are you thinking?" replied Jack. "Don't get any funny ideas. We military people don’t have a great sense of humour."
“Just watch this.”
Petri moved sideways by about two kilometres and began a rapid perpendicular descent. "I don't see why we should go and land right in the middle of their welcome committee. We’ll make them run around a little."
After less than ten seconds the shuttle, now about two hundred metres above the ground, slowed its crazy descent until it came to an almost complete stop.
