Gigi joined the Marshall Arts Youth team when she was only 5 years old. They were trained at the Imperial Royal Garden. One day during the practice, after she balanced her body for a warrior pose, she extended her arms straight. “Your arms are not straight enough.” An older girl rushed over and punched down Gigi’s little arms. Enduring the pain, Gigi bit her lips and held back her tears and kept on lifting her arms back on the pose after every hit. Her heart was hardened but determined. She would not back down.
After she was finally let go, little Gigi rubbed her wounds quietly. When she lifted her head again, she saw a slim young lady throwing two swords with red tassels in the sky. Then she leaped high to catch them with a quick spin. Dressed in red, she was like a spitfire flying through the air. Gigi’s eyes widened. “One day, I’ll be like her . . .”
