Selene knew she shouldn’t have gone after him. Lucian had told her to stay put. He didn’t leave room for debate. He never did. But Selene Marlowe hated being told what to do. Especially by him. The voices outside weren’t fading they were getting sharper. Urgent. On edge. Dangerous. Something inside her twisted, warning her this wasn’t just another argument. It all connected. The ambush. The leak. Her. She slipped out of the office, footsteps barely making a sound on the polished floor. The mansion didn’t feel the same. Power crackled in the air, but now it felt like a storm brewing, ready to break loose. Voices bounced down the hallway. Lucian’s cut through them. Cold. Sharp. Lethal. “I asked a simple question.” Selene slowed, pressed herself close to the wall near the corner.
