The air changed the second Rafe opened his mouth. Selene felt it right away the way Lucian straightened up, his eyes going sharp, just a hint of darkness. Something tense and dangerous was hanging in the room, but nobody raised their voice. No explosions. Just control. And somehow, that made it feel worse. “Explain,” Lucian said, just one word quick, hard, final. Rafe stepped in, closed the door. He looked confident, but there was something else simmering cautious, tight. “We intercepted a message,” he said. “Encrypted. Used one of our internal channels.” Selene’s stomach dropped. Internal. Lucian didn’t flinch. He just stared at Rafe. Waiting. Thinking. “Decoded?” Lucian asked. “Partially,” Rafe answered. “Enough to know it wasn’t random. Somebody fed them details about tonight.”
