Mallory was glad when they could leave, all of them clambering into the wagon that Danae drove to the tavern that was further along the road. She’d needed to argue with Brodie about several of the things he’d wanted to sell and she thought they should keep. Callum suggesting they should sell Scorch to the treasure broker had ended some of Brodie’s arguments. When they pulled up, a young man approached them. “I’ve been paid by Remora to watch your wagon so you can all have dinner.” Mallory smiled at him. “Thank you.” The man brushed aside her thanks. “It’s my job.” They all headed inside the tavern, including the companion animals.
