1 year ago Jenna Baker stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. Her eyes, once bright and full of life, now seemed dull and lifeless. She couldn't help but wonder how her life had taken such a drastic turn. It had all started a year ago, when her parents had announced their alliance with the Cornelius family. As part of the agreement, Jenna was forced into a contracted marriage with Ryan Cornelius, the twenty-seven-year-old entrepreneur and stepson of the wealthy Cornelius family. At first, Jenna had been hesitant, but her parents had assured her that it was a great opportunity for their families to merge and become even more powerful. Jenna had tried to make the best of it, hoping that she and Ryan would eventually fall in love. And for a while, it had seemed like that might actually happen. Ryan had been charming and attentive, and Jenna had found herself falling for him. They had spent countless nights exploring the city, laughing and getting to know each other. But everything had changed two months into their marriage. Jenna had given her virginity to Ryan, and afterwards, he had begun to act strange. He became distant and cold, only coming home twice a week and pushing Jenna away whenever she tried to touch him. Jenna felt a pang of sadness and frustration as she thought about it. She had tried to talk to Ryan about it, but he had just brushed her off, telling her that he was stressed with work and needed space. Jenna took a deep breath and tried to shake off the feeling of desperation that was creeping in. She couldn't give up on her marriage yet. She had to try and make it work. She walked out of the bedroom and made her way to the kitchen, where she found Ryan sitting at the table, sipping a cup of coffee. "Good morning," Jenna said, trying to sound cheerful. Ryan looked up at her and nodded, but didn't say anything. Jenna felt a pang of hurt and frustration. This was how it had been for weeks now. Ryan barely spoke to her, and when he did, it was only to discuss something related to their families' businesses. "Ryan, can we talk?" Jenna asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Ryan sighed and put down his coffee cup. "What is it, Jenna?" Jenna took a deep breath and tried to explain how she was feeling. "I feel like we're drifting apart, Ryan. We never spend time together anymore, and when we do, it's always so... distant. I feel like I'm losing you." Ryan looked at her, his expression unreadable. "I'm just stressed with work, Jenna. That's all." Jenna felt a surge of anger and frustration. How could Ryan be so oblivious to her feelings? "I don't believe you," Jenna said, her voice shaking. "There's something more going on, Ryan. Something you're not telling me." Ryan's expression changed, and for a moment, Jenna saw a flash of guilt in his eyes. But then, it was gone, and he was back to his usual cold and distant self. "I don't know what you're talking about, Jenna," Ryan said, standing up. "I have to go. I have a meeting." Jenna watched as Ryan walked out of the kitchen, feeling a sense of despair wash over her. She didn't know how much more of this she could take. As she stood there, feeling lost and alone, Jenna knew that she had to do something. She couldn't just sit back and watch her marriage fall apart. $$$ Later that evening, Jenna walked into the living room, where Ryan was sitting on the couch, watching TV. She sat down beside him, trying to snuggle up close. "Hey," she said, nudging him with her elbow. Ryan grunted, not looking away from the screen. Jenna tried again, putting her hand on his leg. "How was your day?" Ryan shifted away from her, his eyes still fixed on the TV. "It was fine." Jenna felt a pang of rejection. She had been trying to get closer to Ryan for weeks, but he seemed to be ignoring her. She tried to tell herself that he was just stressed, that he didn't mean to be distant. But deep down, she knew that wasn't true. Ryan was avoiding her. Jenna felt a surge of determination. She was not going to give up. She was going to make Ryan see her, to make him understand how she felt. She leaned forward, trying to get his attention. "Ryan, can we talk?" Ryan sighed, finally looking away from the TV. "What is it, Jenna?" Jenna's heart skipped a beat. She saw something in Ryan's eyes, something that looked almost like... disdain. "I just wanted to talk to you about us," Jenna said, trying to sound casual. But before she could continue, Ryan's phone rang. He answered it, listening for a moment before getting up and walking away. "Sorry Jenna, I have to take this," he said, not looking back. Jenna watched him go, feeling frustrated and defeated. Why was Ryan ignoring her? Didn't he care about their marriage anymore? Jenna tried to shake off the feeling of rejection and decided to focus on making a nice dinner for Ryan. She spent hours in the kitchen, cooking his favorite meal. When Ryan came home, Jenna proudly presented the dinner she had made. But instead of being impressed, Ryan looked at the food with disgust. "What is this?" he asked, his voice dripping with disdain. "It's your favorite, chicken parmesan," Jenna replied, trying to hide her hurt. Ryan sneered. "It looks like something a child made. The chicken is overcooked, the sauce is bland... it's just disgusting." Jenna felt a sting of tears. She had tried so hard to make a nice dinner for him, and this was the thanks she got? "I'm sorry," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'll try to do better next time." But Ryan just laughed. "Next time? You mean if I'm lucky enough to get a decent meal out of you?" Jenna felt a surge of anger. How could he be so cruel? "I'm just trying to make you happy," she said, her voice shaking. Ryan sneered again. "You'll never make me happy with your pathetic cooking. Just order takeout or something. It's not like you're capable of making anything edible." Jenna felt like she had been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe the hurtful things Ryan was saying to her. She turned and ran out of the room, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't take any more of Ryan's cruel words.
