[Player “Yazi” requires 40 more experience points to level up.]
A glowing blue knife spun through the air, heading straight for a zombie that had no idea of the danger approaching. The zombie, oblivious, was still running toward a human target not far off.
The knife sliced through the air.
The zombie’s head, with its bloodthirsty mouth open, fell to the ground, its body crashing to the floor. At the same time, a glowing blue item dropped from its body.
But that wasn’t the important part. What mattered was the way the spinning knife, after reaching its maximum distance, defied logic and made a spiraling turn. It curved back toward Lin Ziluo.
Another zombie, charging at Lin Ziluo, had no idea it was about to be struck from behind. The knife, spinning with incredible speed, sliced through its neck with ease.

As the word “Death” appeared above the fallen zombie’s head, Lin Ziluo caught the returning knife with satisfaction.
“Whirlwind s***h is really useful,” he mused.
The only downside was that his Spirit stat was still too low, meaning the cooldown for the Whirlwind s***h was a bit too long.
It was now 12:30 PM. Lin Ziluo had woken up at 6:00 AM and left the inn by 6:30. That meant he had been on the move for six hours already.
Although he had been taking the less-traveled paths, avoiding dense zombie clusters, the rewards had been gratifying. After killing nearly thirty zombies, Lin Ziluo had successfully reached level 4. And with the 100% drop rate, he had received nearly thirty items.
Today, Lin Ziluo didn’t have the same “luck” he had enjoyed last night. Most of the items were basic survival materials—things like “a clean men’s shirt,” “a serving of Kung Pao chicken with rice,” and “a precise wristwatch…”
He packed them all into his storage space, knowing his food supplies for the next three days were taken care of. The wristwatch, however, he wore on his wrist. In the apocalypse, knowing the time was essential.
He couldn’t rely on his second-hand phone to check the time, especially with the impending collapse of the city’s power grid, which would render charging devices useless.
Among the other items were an Eye of Reconnaissance and a [Concealment Mask].
[Concealment Mask]: Bronze-tier item. When worn, it hides the wearer’s nickname, level, and basic information for 30 minutes. Usable twice per day.
Not bad at all, Lin Ziluo thought, immediately wearing the mask.
He moved forward to pick up the items dropped by the two zombies he had just slain.

He casually stuffed the item into his storage space and then looked at the glowing blue scroll.
[Equipment Enhancement Scroll]: Bronze-tier item. Enhances Bronze-tier equipment. The enhanced equipment will gain stat boosts. The first enhancement is guaranteed to succeed, but future enhancements will have a decreasing success rate as levels increase.
Lin Ziluo smiled. Finally, something useful!
Without hesitation, he slapped the [Equipment Enhancement Scroll] onto his Tang Dao.
[Enhancement Successful. Congratulations to player “Yazi” for upgrading “Tang Horizontal Blade +1.”]
[Tang Horizontal Blade +1]: Bronze-tier weapon, a Tang Dynasty-style military saber from Dragon Country. Approximately 70 cm long, with armor-piercing and durability features. After enhancement, the weapon’s attributes have been boosted.
Attributes: Strength +2, can pierce 15% of enemy defense, and consecutive slashes will increase damage by 10%. After exiting combat, the blade will slowly heal from damage.
The edge of his Tang Dao grew sharper, reflecting the intense sunlight in a blinding flash.
Lin Ziluo then spent the attribute point gained from leveling up on Strength. His base stats now looked like this:
Base Attributes:
• Strength: 18
• Spirit: 17
• Constitution: 11
• Agility: 17
With the surge of power flooding his body, Lin Ziluo’s stomach growled loudly.
“Alright, time for a break. I’ll push hard in the afternoon. If I reach level 5 today, I can head straight to the target area tomorrow and skip looking for dungeons.”
At this point, Lin Ziluo’s goal was the Li family’s mansion. Originally, he had planned to locate a dungeon portal, as dungeons were the primary source of experience, food, equipment, and items in the Apocalypse Game. After all, zombies were limited, and there weren’t many to kill.
Players only needed to find the numerous dungeon portals scattered around the city to teleport to a waiting area and choose which dungeon to enter. Of course, there were also special single-player dungeons, which were hidden and offered rich rewards.
But Lin Ziluo now felt that he was progressing quickly enough. There was no need to waste time waiting.
By the time he had traveled for several hours in the morning, he had covered about a third of the distance to the mansion. He had reached a quiet, deserted road lined with low houses.
He had purposefully chosen these paths, avoiding crowded areas. After all, on the second day of the apocalypse, very few dared to venture out alone to face zombies.
Lin Ziluo picked a house at random, slashing open the lock with his Tang Dao, and entered.
Inside, the house was a chaotic mess, items scattered everywhere. It was clear that one family member had turned into a zombie, and the others had tried to escape in a hurry.
He didn’t let his guard down, though. The bloodstains on the floor and the strange smell in the air told him that more zombies were likely in here.
With his Tang Dao raised, Lin Ziluo walked through the messy living room, heading toward the bedroom hallway.
“Roar.”
Suddenly, a growl came from a room on Lin Ziluo’s right.
Two sharp claws punctured the wooden door, slashing at him.
Thanks to his agility, Lin Ziluo avoided the claws effortlessly and swung his Tang Dao, slicing both claws clean off.
The zombie behind the door went wild, banging on the door with all its might. The door groaned under the pressure.
Without hesitation, Lin Ziluo thrust his knife straight into the door, piercing the zombie’s chest.
Though the chest wasn’t its weak spot, the zombie continued to flail and strike at the door, its severed arms still swinging wildly in the air.
Lin Ziluo kicked the door, and it came crashing down, pinning the zombie beneath it.
With ease, Lin Ziluo approached and severed its head.
“OK, battle’s over,” he muttered, finally relaxing as he walked back to the living room.
He plopped down at the dining table, pulling out a thick stack of cards.
“Ugh, too much food, I don’t even know what to eat first,” Lin Ziluo said with mock frustration.
If only the survivors outside could hear him, they’d probably drop dead from envy.
But Lin Ziluo quickly came up with a solution—he would draw cards.
He casually selected four cards and activated them.
Instantly, the table was filled with steaming, aromatic dishes.
He eagerly dug into the Shredded Pork and Sausage Fried Rice, savoring every bite.
