Chapter 6: Open Up! Police Raid!

849 Words
Lin Ziluo currently had four unallocated stat points, but he wasn’t in any rush to spend them. He hadn’t yet decided which path he would take in this second life. In his past life, countless terrifying hidden classes had eventually been discovered, but right now none of them had been claimed. This meant he had the chance to pick an entirely new road. Besides, his current attributes were already well above normal humans: Base Stats • Strength: 12 • Spirit: 17 • Constitution: 11 • Agility: 14 For the early stage, this was more than enough. Still, he knew he couldn’t waste time. The most urgent matter was clearing out the zombies nearby. At night, all zombies received at least a 50% stat boost. And the game defined “night” as 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. It was only a few minutes away. By then, he needed to be in a safe place. This was one of the cruel tricks of the apocalypse game. The zombies got their buff at eight o’clock, but the game itself hadn’t even descended until seven. Barely an hour to prepare—most people wouldn’t stand a chance. That first night had swallowed countless players alive. ⸻ With only a plain “whiteboard” dagger in hand—no stats, no bonuses—Lin Ziluo stepped out into the narrow corridor of the motel. The entire floor had ten rooms, barely wide enough for two people to walk side by side. He decided to start with Room 210, just behind him. The old wooden floor creaked under his steps, drawing immediate attention from inside. The soundproofing here was a joke. A guttural snarl answered from within, followed by awkward, jerking footsteps rushing toward the door. Not waiting, Lin Ziluo struck first. His dagger pierced the rusted lock, snapping it like paper. With a sharp pull, he swung the door open. A zombie in a sweat-stained white tank top lurched into view, muscles bulging, skin mottled dark. Clearly, this one had done heavy labor in life. Lin Ziluo glanced at its stats: [Ordinary Zombie] • Level: 1 • Strength: 12 • Spirit: 5 • Constitution: 13 • Agility: 9 Stronger than most by a couple points, but still manageable. He drew a clean arc with his dagger and lunged. The zombie’s gray eyes twitched; its claws slashed at his face. Lin Ziluo bent low, slipping under the swipe, and rushed into its chest. The stench was overwhelming, but he didn’t flinch. His dagger drove straight into its throat. Not quite a killing blow. The zombie opened its bloodstained maw, lunging to bite. Calmly, Lin Ziluo twisted his dagger. A black word flashed above its head: Death. [Congratulations, player “Yazi” has slain a zombie. Gained: 1 EXP, 1 Gold Coin.] The corpse toppled, shaking the dusty floor. Two breaths. That was all it took. Still, he frowned. Too sloppy. Should’ve killed it in one strike. Leveling from 2 to 3 required 10 EXP. He needed nine more zombies. From the corpse’s body, a glowing card dropped. [Seared Sirloin Steak (Medium Rare)] • Imported New Zealand beef tenderloin, paired with a signature sauce. • Can be summoned instantly, served at the perfect temperature. A valuable item at this stage, though later it would only be worth about 100 coins once the shop opened. Lin Ziluo stored it away for now. The room also held a large canvas bag. Inside: repair tools. This zombie must’ve been a handyman. He pocketed the whole set, pulling out a hammer for immediate use. The dagger was short; the hammer gave him some mid-range reach. Satisfied, he left 210. 208—empty. 207—empty. He felt a little disappointed. Where are all the zombies? At 206, however, he heard snarls—two at once. His eyes lit up. Perfect. He smashed the lock with his hammer and kicked the door wide. “Open up! Vice squad! This is a raid!” he shouted. For a man once known for his silence—and in his past life, a decade of cold-blooded killing—this newfound playfulness was startling. But after murdering Yao Jinghan, his personality had begun to shift. Years of repression had snapped back, rebounding like mania after depression. Inside, the two zombies blinked dumbly. What the hell? We’re already zombies, and you’re still raiding us? Lin Ziluo blinked too. Both were naked. Then it clicked. Right. Pink-light motel. Figures. The pair of zombies roared in fury at the intrusion. The male zombie charged first. Lin Ziluo raised an eyebrow. “Seriously, bro? With something that small, you’re still paying for service? No wonder you’re pissed.” The zombie let out a furious howl as if it understood. Lin Ziluo had already checked its stats—two points weaker than the handyman zombie. Explains the worm-sized equipment. The hammer came down with a sickening thud. The zombie’s skull cracked open, its body staggering. The dagger followed swiftly, plunging into its throat. Death. [Congratulations, player “Yazi” has slain a zombie. Gained: 1 EXP, 1 Gold Coin.]
